Subject: Irresponsible journalism, take 2?
I opened the original irresponsible journalism story thinking it might be about this, but it wasn't...

In big "sports" news, some wrestler from the WWE (Chris Benoit) apparently murdered his family and committed suicide. This is sad - I'm sorry for his family, but what I'm irritated by is this: the radio stations around here were all reporting it as another WWE hoax (like the staged Vince McMahon death - don't ask me, I know nothing about this).

Now I don't give a flying rat about WWE wrestling, but I think the whole thing of making a joke about the Benoit deaths is fairly distasteful. (And I guess, at a lower level, the whole WWE hoax with McMahon is also distasteful, but that didn't intrude on my daily life like the news story did.)

I will now go back to telling lame jokes.

It's not really journalism if you're talking about morning shows and `shock jocks' ...

But if it is real news people then yes, I agree, that's terribly distasteful if it isn't true. Any ethical journalist will report only what he or she is certain to be true.

I can't say thay I heard anything from the local radio stations, but I thought it was pretty clear that this was not part of any storyline (i.e. the McMahon angle wasn't a hoax, it was a fairly obvious storyline).  Especially when it got picked up by the AP almost immediately.

I thought the staff at WWE showed a lot of class in basically dropping every storyline to acknowledge him.  Shame that the DJs didn't do the same.
