Subject: New Garmin rebate
I just ran across a rebate by Garmin for Forerunner 305 and Edge 305. I'm personally interested in an Edge 305 which has a $75 rebate. There are sites that sell the Edge 305 in the low $200's so with the rebate it can be as low as around $150. Not bad for something with an MSRP of $400.

Edit:
And, I found the Forerunner on Buy.com for $209

I bought one at $379 and another when the price dropped to $270.  I guess I should put in my order for another one really soon.  I think it is an aggressive pricing strategy by Garmin to keep others like Polar from encroaching on the exercise GPS market.  Polar is coming out with a GPS based system soon.  I really like capitalism.

Thanks for the rebate info, but I wonder why a triathlete would go with the Edge rather than the Forerunner. Seems like, except for altimeter, the Forerunner can do everything the Edge can do, plus you could use the Forerunner on the run.

The Edge also has a bigger screen which makes it easier to see on the bike.  You're getting old, Bear.  You probably should look into getting an Edge.

Gaining a slightly bigger screen would so not be worth giving up the run function.

kproudfoot - 2007-06-28 10:40 AM check out amazon.com they have the forerunner 305 listed for around $200.

You can get the watch at Amazon.com for $215.99, the speed/cadence sensor for $42.30 and the quick release for $19.34, all with free shipping.  That brings the grand total for the geekified triathlete to $227.63 after the $50 rebate.  That's an awesome deal.
I just got mine a couple of weeks ago for $258, so Garmin is really coming down on these things fast!

A true geekified triathlete would have both.  Edge on teh bike, gives you better climbing info and also gives elevation gain as an option during the ride, something the Forerunner doesn't.

Also, could do an IM and not run out of battery power on just the Forerunner alone (assuming a 10+ hour finish and you don't turn off the gps)

I'll stick with the Forerunner for both, though.

I guess I'm truly geekified then because I already have a Forerunner 305 and I'm buying an Edge to go on my new bike. I just wish I had the speed/talent that should go along with new bikes and gadgets (but I'm working on it).

Thanks for the find. Between the price on Amazon and the rebate, I'm sold on the Forerunner.

(I already have a bike computer, so I don't really care about the Edge).

Just ordered mine from Amazon today.  It even qualified for free shipping which means I will get it between July 13th-17th.  Talk about snail mail.  I'm guessing thats why they offer free shipping, noone is willing to wait that long.
