Subject: Hands out of the 'work cookie jar"

On Jan 1, 2006 I weighed in around 250 to 255 lbs.  By June of 2006 I was down to 225lbs..  With a one year son (at the time) and his erratic sleeping patterns due to being sick, I did a LOT of spinerval workouts in the living room and by June 2006 had dropped to 225lbs.

I've held in the 223-228lb range for the last year.  It doesn't help that I go a while of eating well, and with portion control, then blow it for a week, and I make trips to the 'company cookie jar' (stocked with pop (soda), chips, and other junk food stuff).

TODAY, I am starting something new and wanted to share (in case it gives you inspiraction to bust through plateaus).  When I get the urge to go get junk food, I intend to walk to the company kitchen, take out the money for the junk, move the money to my other pocket, and walk back to my desk WITHOUT the junk.

Purpose is two-fold, radically minimize the junk intake, and the money that goes into the 'other pocket' will go into a "Fitness Fund" that can be used for race registration, a yoga dvd, ....whatever.

Anyway, now that it's been made public, you all are allowed to check in with inspires and pm's for accountability.

I will try to remember to include the amount of money added to the "Fitness Fund" in the training log.

So far today, I've urged only once (and resisted) and earned myself an 50 cent start.

EDIT:  This will also include any times that I feel like going to get lunch, when I've already brought stuff from home.

You are awesome.  Thank you.  This guy at work, his wife runs a bakery, so we ALWAYS have incredible free stuff there ... but from now on if I eat it, it's gonna "cost" me a contribution ... maybe to my tri-equipment fund, maybe a charitable contribution.  I'm awful with controlling food but I am the biggest tightwad on earth ...  I let myself have a treat every day but it's NOT a good idea for it to be the "free" stuff there!

TMI from me, but thanks for the commitment and inspiration.

Way to go Ty, I've also plateaued at 235-240 (currently at the upper end), and been that way for three years after being at 275.  the thrill of going 275 to 235 is looong gone.  My problem (who am I kidding, one of many problems) is the company soda fridge.  All full, all the time, all free.  My commitment today is no sodas.  I guess I gotta start somewhere.

Be expecting INSPIRES to help you with that commitment.

Try making that walk to the "cookie jar" a brisk one, or detour to the stairs for a quick set before facing down the machine.  Then, since you've gotta return with something, make it a glass of ice water.  There are ways to beat the cookie demons.

Well, im not as drastic as many above, but for me my vice is the pizza box. I wrestled in high school at 160, ballooned to 195 my first year of college, now im back down to 180. After I started triing, i quickly lost 15 lbs, but now im steady at 180 for almost a month. The biggest problem for me has been at work we get all the leftover food from next door when they close, which is a pizza joint. Sparking from your idea, every time i eat some pizza at work I put a $5 in my tribox. I've gotten enough for a set of aerobars and almost for shoes and clipless pedals as well.

GL to everyone though, this is why this sport kicks @ss

Great idea! Good luck and stick with it. Before you know it you'll have all new tri gear!

Wonderful idea!

School will be starting back in a month. The teachers lounge is always full of snacks and goodies. This year I'll have a fridge in my classroom. I'm hoping that will cut down on the trips to the lounge to fill up my water bottle with ice/water. If you don't see it then you can't eat it!

We've gotten into a bad habit of eating out this summer. I'm going to take your suggestion and start putting the money we would have spent into a family fund.

Okay, I started this thread and it’s time to make a confession:

I was good for a while.  Then the exhaustion of interrupted sleep lead to a lack of training/motivation and that lead to lack of discipline in eating and that lead me back to the ‘company sugar supply/candy store.’

I am once again working at getting back on track.  I feel like Clark Griswald, “Look kids, Big Ben.  The Parliament.  Look kids, Big Ben.  The Parliament.”

I will get off that circle…again.

Hey, no worries....  I've had 3 diet cokes since July 3.  Not great, still better.  Also had 2 or 3 Hansen's during that time.  Honestly the craving for soda has almost left entirely.
