Subject: IM Aid Station Question

I'm doing Ironman Canada in August.  It will be my first.

I've done 4 ultramarathons, and its normal at these races to hand your waterbottle to the volunteers and they refill it for you.  Aid stations are typically about 45 minutes apart.

Will they refill your waterbottles with Gatorade on the run segment this at Ironman?  And is this really the best strategy?  Or should I just carry nothing and drink out of paper cups?  I understand aid stations are only 1 mile apart.

Hi there,
If you can stomach gatorade, it's easiest to leave the water belt off, and just drink at the water stations. It's correct that they're only a mile apart, so unless you have another sports drink you train with, you should be fine. That being said, you have to do what you're comfortable with, and if you're used to running with a belt that might be the best way to go.
Go with what you're comfortable with.

Good luck in IMC
