Overall Rank = 108/409
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 12/40
Pre-race routine:

Had to drive up at 4:45a from Boston.
Event warmup:

2 mile bike
Swim
  • 28m 21s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

A little sighting problems going out. It was hard to see the bouys because of the waves and some scratches on my goggles. About 1/2 way out I just made sure that I picked up my head and sighted bouys instead of following the pack which was all over the place.
What would you do differently?:

Get new goggles

Transition 1
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

This was the first race that I have done were I biked barefoot and pre clipped my shoes. Not having to mess with socks and shoes made a huge difference and greatly sped up my transition.
What would you do differently?:

HR:172
Bike
  • 1h 19m 5s
  • 27.3 miles
  • 20.71 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt good on the entire bike. The course was mostly rolling hills with one major climb that was so steep the guy that I was behind had to unclip his shoes to catch himself to avoid falling over. After mounting, I was quick to get straped into my shoes and get my gloves on. I passed alot of people in the age group ahead of me and a handful of people in my age group. I was really only overtaken by the guys ridding $5000+ bikes with tecked out Zipp wheels and such.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, other than drop $5000+ on a carbon fiber bike with Zipp wheels
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

After dismounting and going into T2 I was able to outrun 2 two guys (both in biking shoes) in the chute because I was barefoot and much faster. I decided to wear socks for the run which were quite easy to put on my dry feet.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe not wear socks in the run (after building up better calaces) to save the 10-15 seconds. The Yanks speed laces are worth their weight in gold times 10. This $7 purchase took 20-30 seconds off of T2.
Run
  • 47m 57s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

I need to work on my run (more brick workouts). I know that in normal road races I am capable of better than a 7'00"/mi pace. So far I have had trouble keeping under 8'00"/mi.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

As said above, I need to work on my brick runs

Event comments:

The course is very scenic. The swim is in one of the ten cleanest lakes in the country. You can see about 25' down. The bike is along the lake and though a nice small New Hamshire town. The locals were out cheering all over the place. The run is out and back along the lake, again very scenic. Overall I am extremely happy with my results. I finished in the top 25% of the competition and everything felt good. This race was my best placing of the year and a good note to end the season on.

Awesome job, Antelope! My RR to come soon - finished in 3:22 but still rode my bike up that one big hill you were talking about!
