Holden Oasis Mini Triathlon - Triathlon

View Member's Race Log
Holden, Missouri
United States
64F / 18C
Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 50m
Overall Rank = 5/6
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 2/3
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:30 to eat breakfast, drink some coffee, shower, shave, and wake up. Left the house at 4:30 to make it to the race by 5:30. Jogged a little to warm up and then stood around for an hour b/c the RD decided to move the start time from 6:00 to 7:00. I took my PowerBar gel at 5:45, so by 7:00 I'm not sure what it was worth.
Swim
  • 05m
  • 250 yards
  • 02m / 100 yards
Comments:

The water was WAY warmer in the pool than the rain coming down, so the swim felt great. I felt very comfortable in the water (no surpise, since it's a pool) and only bumped in to one other person.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - I was spot on for my swim performance.
Transition 1
  • 06m 1s
Comments:

Because there were only 6 of us, they let us put our bikes and transition bags right by the pool entry. I had a very difficult time getting my shoes tied, which drove me nuts. I couldn't get my jacket on very quickly either, because it was soaked from the rain.
What would you do differently?:

Use the Yankz shoes laces I bought specifically for tris.
Bike
  • 1h 00m
  • 15 miles
  • 15.00 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

I need to get clipless pedals or toe clips b/c my feet kept sliding all over the pedals. Otherwise, my ride was spot on for me.
Transition 2
  • 06m 1s
Comments:

T2 consisted of hopping off my bike and handing it off to one of the race volunteers. I had to fight with my gloves, which was something new, but oh well. I stretched good, which accounts for the long T2 time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 33m 37s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt good for the first mile or so, but then my calves began to cramp up and it was downhill from there. I was forced to run/walk for the rest of the run, which accounts for the slower time than I had anticipated.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good job, triathlete.

Were there really only 6 competitors in this triathlon?

Nice work, triathlete! I agree that the rain sucks when you're riding a bike. But you stuck it out and finished. Great job!

Congratulations, triathlete!!!!  Way to stick through it with all the nasty weather.

As a piece of advice, I sometimes leave my gloves on in T2 and work on taking them off while I am running.  It saves time and I can put them in the pocket in my tri suit, so it isn't too big of a deal.

Yeah, I thought about that as I fighting to get them off - I about said, "srew it, take them with me".

Hey Nice job and way to finish it out!  The rain must of really stunk while riding but you got it done and that is all that matters.  Great job and look forward to seeing you out at one of the triathlons.
