Subject: New to tiathlons, training going well!
I started training two weeks ago for a triathlon in September at the Coralville Reservoir. I'm astonished at how well my training is progressing. I've been following the 13 week Sprint training schedule on this site, and its really working well! This morning, I wanted to see just how far I have come. I decided to try a simulated triathlon at the gym. I ran 3.1 miles on the treadmill, rode 12 miles on the stationary bike, and swam .5 mile in the pool. I know its not the same as the real thing, but I was really excited to be able to do all that back to back without pooping out. It took me an hour and 37 minutes, but I never stopped, and felt pretty good when I got done. I figure if I'm doing this well two weeks into my training, I shouldn't have much trouble with the real thing in September.

I guess if the training is this exciting, the real thing must be pretty cool. I can't wait for September. Hope to see some of you there!

Nice work, Jared, and welcome to BT!  Good luck in September!

A workout of all three sports is sometimes referred to as a "trick" (as opposed to brick, which as you know is two).  Although yours really was more of a sim tri as you said than a workout.

In any case, great to have you on board.

I'm assuming you are going to the Troops and Trihawks this Sept. I've heard the course is very hilly. Any chance you've ridden it? Did my first tri earlier this year at the Quad City Sprint.

No, I haven't rode on it yet. I hope to make it out there one of these weekends.
