Subject: Seattle and or Portland Marathon???

Anyone running either of these?

I was thinking of walking in Portland and then running (well for me run/walk) Seattle.

I might jog Seattle. The last time I tried to run it fast I hit the wall. And I'm not using that term lightly either. I was dizzy and talking nonsense and fell off of the road if I tried to start running. So, this year it's "fun run" time.

Portland is advertised as one of the fastest courses in the nation. Seattle is rather challenging. I haven't run either, so I can't give first-hand knowledge, this is just what I know of the terrain and chosen course for the races.

I did Portland a couple years ago.  Seems to be fast until you hit the St Johns Bridge.

Seattle is ok, has some climbing in the last 6 miles that really isn't fun...Weather is challenging usually.

I'm not particularly sure about the level of difficulty comparison, but I have known people that have done both, and the reviews say that Portland has a lot better food at the end ... Hope that helps!

Last year at the seattle it began snowing the night before and didn't stop until around 10am on race day. The course was covered with a layer of slush and a lot of miserable runners. I did the race in '02 and it was sunny and around 55F. Weather is without a doubt a crap shoot. The bulk of the course, along Lk Washington Blvd is flat and fast, but as stated the final 10k is very hilly. There is a long steep hill up Madison then back down to the Arboretum. That was where I hit the wall. Cramped up in a major way.

Good Luck

Hi Piggpen, I have haven't been to BT in a really long time, wondered if I would see anyone I recognized around.  I am training for the Portland Marathon, it will be my first (and maybe only, unless something really addicting happens, always possible).

I always volunteered at the Seattle Marathon until this past year.  I did the half.  It was definitely wet, snowy even.  I am going back to volunteering for that one.
