I PLAN ON TRYING TO RUN A TRI BEFORE I DEPLOY BACK TO IRAQ. I'M ALL EARS TO ANY SUGGESTIONS. AS FAR I KNOW, I'M LOST JUST WINGING IT BY READING ARTICLES. I NEED TO FIND A GOOD BIKE, AFFORDABLE. ANY HELP FOR ME WOULD BE GREATFUL

Welcome to BT!

I used to be stationed at Camp Pendleton before I got out of the service. I was with Kilo 3/5.

Hi Ryan! Welcome and thanks for posting. Congrats on signing up for your first tri and good luck training.

There's some good training plans here and on trinewbies.com ... they are all for more than 4 weeks, but you could just do one of the one-month blocks on there (or the last month) provided you have a good fitness base to begin with, which, as a Marine, you hopefully do

Any bike will do for your first triathlon. A road bike will be easier, but lots of people do their first tri on a mountain bike (maybe have road tires put on it). So beg/borrow/steal one rather than buy might be a good idea, if it fits you okay and you're comfortable on it.

thanks of all the inputs. i can already see how helpful the tri-community is. it is very encouraging. well yesterday was my first official training day. the swim was painful. i though twenty minutes of swimming would be somewhat easy. wrong!! according to the schedule today is my day off but being a marine there is no such thing. off to the gym i go.
i started prepping my mountain bike last night. looking forward to riding more. does anyone have suggestions aon what type of gear to get?

just an option since like i said its free. also realize once you get into it youll be buying stuff all the time. i got my bike a few months ago and i cant stop buying things. ask anyone here and theyll tell you the same. its an expensive habbit but mostly expensive at the beginning.
