So i have been pretty good at not eating sweets and have not had a candy bar or anything like that in 2 months but yesterday I was really craving sweets. Like I could not get enough sugar.

Is my body telling me something or am I just mentally weak?

Old habits die hard... Are you giving yourself a day every week or two where you let yourself have a little of whatever you want? It's worked well for me in order to keep some sanity. During the week, I'll eat some cottage cheese with dried fruit for one of my meals if I need a 'fix' too badly. I know if I didn't give myself a freeday, I'd lose bodyfat a lot faster, but I would go crazy. Eating well has become such a habit though, that it's rare that I really abuse a free day anyway.

Mentally weak? No. Human, yes.

sometimes by not 'caving' in, your craving for a particular food increases and that's all you think about, which is worse.    Give in, have one instead of 2 and move on to the next day.  Nothing wrong with eating all food groups - chocolate (or whatever) is no exception !!

There are some great sugar free chocolate bars and candies out there - Russell Stover makes some - Whitmans - Ross - etc. Of course you have to be careful as they have a laxative effect.

When I get to craving sweets I usually grab a paring knife and a granny smith apple. For some reason the ritual of eating the apple with a knife satisfies both my hunger and keeps my mind off of other more fattening sweets.

I'm also learning my cravings are partly habit.  The 3 o'clock slump at work, I would ALWAYs get a chocolate bar and a coke.  I truly felt I HAD to have one, I'd get headaches, sore back etc. And I'd take all that caffeine and sugar for a quick fix. But since I started distinguishing between genuine cravings and just habit, I am starting to conquer them. I don't deny myself the odd chocolate, but when I have the urge just to graze because I'm bored, I make sure I have fruit or carrots, or yoghurt. And It's not that I think all chocolate is bad, but I am trying to break the habit.

I have been real good and thought I had broken most bad habits I have had including chewing. Maybe I was just having a bad day training day or something.

Looks like I'm past it though so....back to the healthy eating.

Oh I forgot - one other thing that I find works well for craving sweets: chewing gum. Dentyne, Trident whatever as long as it is sugarless it still has that nice sweet kick and doesn't do anything to the diet.

Just eat the candy bar. In moderation, you won't gain weight from treating yourself once in a while.

I have a huge problem with sweets, especially chocolate. I have found that if I have just a little each day, that I don't fall over the edge and eat a whole bag of candy. I have been buying the Hershey's miniatures and allowing myself 2 at lunch and 2 after dinner. It probably equates to about 1/2 a candy bar a day. I have found that denying youerself waht you crave is a recipe for disaster. Your willpower will only carry you so far and eventually most of us will just give in and binge.

i am a sugar/chocolate MONSTER, but as part of trying to get my diet right, ive been drinking lots and lots of water. since ive made that change, ive noticed that my strongest sugar cravings have come to me when i havent been getting as much water as i need to. ive found that drinking a lot of water and having a little chocolate does me just as well as having the entire giant candy bar. it also does a better job with my chronic headaches than any pill does.
