I have heard that chocolate milk is a good recovery drink after a workout. What makes it a good recovery drink? Does regular milk and soy milk not have the same things that chocolate milk has?

My answer - chocolate soy milk I hate regular milk, although chocolate milk is much more tolerable - but drinking too much milk tends to wreak havoc on my digestive system.

Honestly, I don't know what the difference would be. I figure "soy milk has protein" "chocolate stuff has carbs" - protein and carbs are good

I go for Soy…. I get allergies worse if I drink regular milk. But hey, its all pasteurized, homogenized and scrutinized…….

Yeah there was an article in Runners World about how chocolate milk outperformed the likes of Endurox as a recovery drink.

To answer your question, I would guess that chocolate milk has more carbs than normal milk and also different types of carbs (slow/fast releasing).  For this reason I would also assume that is why it would also be better than soy milk.  I wouldn't have a clue which out of normal milk and soy milk was the better recovery drink.

They have very close profiles:

What makes them "good" recovery drinks is the carbs and protein. The carbs mostly come from the chocolate.

And the carb/protein ratio is about perfect.

Here's an article that does say that consuming proteins and sugars after resistance training increases the synthesis of proteins used for force i.e. it builds muscles. Bring on the chocolate..
