I haven't done the race, but have swum in Boerne City Lake and have ridden the bike course.  I'll be doing the race this Sunday.  A few thoughts:

Even with all the recent rain and lack of hot days, the water is fairly warm, possibly not wetsuit legal.  I swam in it on Saturday, sans wetsuit; I swam in it a few weeks ago when it seemed a few degrees cooler (I used a wetsuit that time). I saw the pictures from last year and nobody was using a wetsuit.

The bike is up north of Boerne, with lots of rolling hills.  If you train on hills, these hills aren't overly challenging.  If you don't train on hills, some may seem a bit hard.  Most of the ride is on relatively new but somewhat rough country-road asphalt (I gather this is what they call chip seal?).  Some nice scenery. You can check out the route and elevation gains here: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?routeid=22758

I don't know anything about the run course.

I gather there will be some 200 to 300 partipants, probably with a good mix of first timers and experienced triathletes.  The people at Britton Bikes seem like good people.  Should be a fun event!

Haven't done the race, but I was raised in the area around Boerne so I'm very familiar with the rolling hills. I don't think it'll be too nasty, but if you've been stuck in FL for the past 6 months like me and haven't ridden a hill that entire time you might be in trouble!

I just hope the rain stops.
