I just did my 1500 Yard TT per my training plan. I am by no means a fish out of water, but would like to finish my swim MOP. Where do I currently stand.

Total Time: 29.53 Minutes

Where does that put me?

Faster than me.

Last time I did a 1500m swim it took me about 38 minutes or so. (I think)

Ummm...There isn't an 'average'. Check whatever race you want to run, lookit last years' results, and that'll give you a yardstick of sorts.

Now...that all being said...in most OLY's, the winning time will be south of 20 minutes or just a tich over, MOP will be 24-27, and BOP will be something beyond that.

In the Oly I did in early June, here are the times at various percentiles of the overall field (1500m, lake swim, wetsuit legal, approx 200 participants):

top 10%   23:30

median     30:17

bottom 10%  37:34

Big difference between pool and open water for some folks.  Also gotta note that yours is measured in yards while most people are quoting Oly distance races which are meters.  Can't really say where you'd fall until you do it in a race.

depends on the race, who shows up and the conditions. Around here at Oly races the top 10-15 guys will swim a 1.5K (1600 yds) around 21 min or under (as fast a 18 min) MOP anywhere between 21 min to 30 min and BOP (last 10-15 guys) 30-40+min.

True! if you don't practice OWS your 1500 yds TT time will most likely be slower even when wearing a wetsuit

One thing to consider here. I see in your subject "1500 yards". There is a difference between YARDS and METERS. Typically 1500 Meters is the distance you would swim. If you are in a 25 YARD pool the MILE is measured at 1650 YARDS. Just an adjustment that may add some time to your measures. Don't confuse the two.

1500 METER TT
1650 YARD TT

The 29-30 mins time you posted puts you right around 2 mins / 100. Probably MOP in most races. But Open Waters is a lot different as well.

Right in my wake. I'm just a hair faster.

If I had to pick a time to call average Id pick 2min/100m . Id say that puts you basically dead on at "average."
