Hi everyone! My name is Natasha, I'm 30 years old, and I live in ontario, Canada. I've been running for 10 years and reacently decided to give the sport of triathlon a try. Needless to say I'm hooked. I'd love to find some friends to share this new passion with either on line or in person. ;-) My email adress is [email protected].

Hi, thanks for the welcome. Actually my name is Kim, really :-) For 2004 I plan to do a bunch of "mini" triathlons located all over Ontario. I want to buy a used road bike or triathlon bike for my initial races. Then, with a good base under my belt I'll upgrade and spend more money. My goal right now is to actually get up the nerve to do a race. Last year I trained most of the summer for a local "mini" tri but chickened out because I didn't have a road bike let alone a triathlon bike. My swimming is weak but my overall endurance is great. I live on a lake which is breathtking in the summer, a real peacful swim in the early morning. Any advice on a first bike would be greatly apreciated. Thanks, Kim

Hey Natasha,
If you have the running down, than you have me beat!! Glad you joined the group. Down here in Waco, Texas, I don't find so many folks who are jazzed about Tri's, but this online community has been a huge godsend. Hope you find it to be the same!

Welcome Kim/Natasha. I have been planning to do a tri for about twenty years now so don't feel too bad about having cold feet. Where do you hail from in Ontario; I hail from Ottawa myself. There are quite a few triathlons that will be held around this area over the spring and summer...plenty for you to choose from. I have a few sites for these but unfortunately, they are in my favourites at home--I am at work right now--but I will post these later on after work. If you are planning to buy a used road/tri bike, you had best look up loal cycling and triathlon clubs to see what is available; you may get a good deal that way from a member who is upgrading.

Don't be afraid to tri. You have to have the attitude that you are there not to be beatten but also you need to know the results don't matter.

Natasha, welcome to the board. There's people with all kinds of bikes doing tri's. If your goal is just to finish one and get it under your belt, don't worry about having the "right" kind of bike. Now, if you don't have ANY bike, that's a bit more of a challenge! Just go for it.
