Steelhead swim report--Friday morning

Swam this morning at race time off the transition-area beach. Water was a little cooler than last night but still too warm to bother with a wetsuit for a practice swim--very comfortable.

There was a definite 2-foot swell running, in contrast to the dead-flat water last night about 8 P.M. The swell takes some getting used to. But almost nothing breaks, and if you roll far enough you can even breathe into the swell. So no pool swim, this, but not rough. I recommend a practice swim if you can get one, even just for a few minutes. Locals will have to tell us whether these are likely to be the conditions tomorrow.

Not clear which way the current might be running--there was little or none this morning as far as I could tell.

Sun was high enough in the sky that the eastbound direction wasn't completely blinding, but you will want your darkest goggles unless there is an eclipse. --DRM
