Hi everyone. I've been bitten by the bug, and I've decided that I have to do a triathlon.

I've been biking for years, and I love it. I enjoy swimming, and I ran track many moos ago in high school. I currently ride 30 or so miles a day on a mountain bike, complete with knobby tires, a non-locking suspension, and regular (non-clip-in) pedals. I'm in decent shape, but I've got a ways to go, and need advice on training, nutrition, and what kind of bike to buy before I hurt myself or throw money away.

Glad to be here!

Welcome to the site! For your bike, I would say just go to a good cycle shop, and find a bike that fits you well and you feel comfortable on.

Welcome to BT.  Read the articles as lots of info.  Find a group to train with for motivation if you can, and do a sprint tr before buying a bike so you know the form of the race.  I still see mountain bikes at my races and they can work!

Welcome to the sport!  If you are just starting, you can certainly use your MTB to do your first few races to see how you like the sport before putting up money for a road or tri bike.  That's what I did.

Check out the free training plans at the 'Programs' button.  They will give you a good template of build and rest periods to get your training going safely.  Of course you do already ride lots so you may have to modify the plan to accommodate your current rides until your bring your run and swim up to speed.

Let us know if any questions!
