Well sort of. I did this online age quiz called Real Age. http://www.realage.com.

According to the tri lifestyle now 10.9 years younger than my real age. I'm 30 something again!

If I plugged in numbers that reflected the amount of non-exercise I used to do, my weight and other poor habits, I would be 4 years older than I really am.

What about you? How old - or young has tri made you?

(some of the quiz questions are really stoopid, by the way and the analysis told me I should see my physician because I'm doing too much cardiovascular exercise and burning too many calories per week. )

Check out the Tanita BC-549scale: http://www.tanita.com/IronManScales.shtml#

It calculates your metabolic age

24... im actually 29. Not too bad I guess. I had some years of smoking in my past that affect the calculation... I was so stupid when I was younger

16... actually 24. Does that mean I have to give up drinking??

Edit: I also got the working out too often or too intensely warning. It's actually quite amusing what it recommends (aside from visiting a doc):

Gradually decrease your level of intensity to no more than 6,500 calories per week. You can reach this goal by doing one or more of the following:
Spend less time doing your current exercises and activities.
Do the exercises and activities at a lower intensity level.
Delete some exercises and activities from your fitness program.

Uh-huh. Sure, I'll do that right away...

says I'm 41 vs 44 but said one reason it's not lower is that I don't take in enough Omega 3's (must have been that fish question) but I do take supplements of it daily..so maybe I'm more like 29

15.1, but my "calendar age" is 22.6.

I'm not sure I feel good about being 15. I think I'm healthier now than I was when I was 15. I was very active then, too, but now I eat better.

I disagree.

Says I'm a year older than I am...I think I'll stick with my 21 year old reading from the Tanita

The report did however give me some very useful insights:

"YOU MAY BE WORKING OUT TOO OFTEN OR TOO INTENSELY. TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR TO FIND OUT WHETHER YOUR WORKOUT IS SAFE FOR YOU.

You may be spending too much time working out. You may also be working out at too high a level of intensity. We measure the weekly intensity level of your workouts by the total number of calories per week that you burn doing these exercises and activities. Based on your answers, we estimate that you probably expend far more than the maximum number of calories for Age Reduction benefits, which occur when at least 1,000 to 3,500 calories are expended each week. Working out too much or too intensely could cause injury and oxidative damage. Talk to your doctor about whether your workout is safe for you."

3500 calories per week????? I'm guessing I go through more than that on Saturday's long ride

"TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT YOUR LOWER THAN AVERAGE HEART RATE.

Your resting heart rate is slower than average. Your slow heart rate indicates one of the following:
You are extremely physically fit for your age. This means you have a young cardiovascular system and the youngest RealAge you can attain for this Age Reduction factor."

Gee - thanks for the info.......Being that my last doctor was an overweight slob who obviously knew nothing about nutrition or exercise, I think I'll pass on having that discussion....

The over exercising bit is a little nonsensical, as is the reference to BMI.

I don't remember the exact words but something to effect of "your BMI indicates that you may need to lose some weight, unless you are muscular, in which case the BMI does not apply, is irrelevant and only complicates the calculation, but we will penalize your score nonetheless..."of course I paraphrase.

But don't show the over exercise  bit to spice/significant others - they may wish to use it as an "official reason" for you to cut back on training...'cuz we all know the Internet is the authority on such things. lol!

Yeah! I got the "you work out too much" line!! It also nailed me on consisently speeding and not wearing seat belts. Overall, I'm not any younger or older.

Isn't this the same spam generator as on active.com? I'll know in a few days if I get lotsa spam addressed to "Butthead."

I'm wondering if I can get a discount on my insurance.  Mind you I'll probably get dinged for exercising too much and not eating enough red meat.

I'm 42 and it found me to be 33...but my "problem" areas:

  • I don't eat enough fat
  • My heart rate is too low
  • I should floss a bit more
  • I should hang out with friends more (I'm a teacher...when I get home, I want to be NON social, I'm social all day)
I remember me at 33...I'm WAY healthier than I was at 33! At 33 I was almost 100 pounds overweight and a complete couch potato!

I'm 26 and it put me at 18.  Guess I can't go out this weekend.

Apparently, I should floss more and do more flexibility exercises.  I don't hang out with people enough and I'm exercising too much.

I'm starting a new club...A bunch of us get together, eat fruit and fish, then we floss each others' teeth and just bond for a while and we follow up with some non-aerobic stretching. But the only people that can be in the club are those that don't drive more than 1000 miles in one year.

What a fun club!

I guess I should quit Triathlons according to that website. Here's what came up

being an ex-smoker got me dinged, I am sure.

it asked me what kind of birth control pill I use, despite the fact that I am male.  And it told me to go get a dog.

I love the birth control question...I would have thought that it would have had something more specific of Sex.Transmitted Diseases. (the women reading this probably have taken a decade more off your life for assuming that males shouldn't have to think about birth control...and the Catholics, well...)

It's really silly and nonsensical when you analyze it, but what do I care...I've found 10 extra years that I thought were gone forever!

Don'tyou think that having a screaming baby at 4am is an effective form of birth control?

that, and the fact that we are exhausted to boot...
