Subject: Question for the female runner
While travelling to Memphis on business, I had gotten back to my hotel late. Decided to squeeze in a quick run on the treadmill. As I start running, an attractive mid-20 year old red head comes in and starts up another treadmill chewing up some serious miles. I figure that there's nothing worse than wanting to come in and run and be gawked at, so I focus on not falling off the treadmill and the ballgame on TV. Eventually, she finishes her workout and gets a good long drink at the water fountain. That's when I notice it. A cute little thong peeking up above the shorts line. I asked my wife - why would a woman wear a thong to work out in? From a practicality standpoint it seems to me that they would offer little in support. But, I'm a guy and don't think straight sometimes...might as well pose it to y'all. Why wear a thong to work out in?

Quite an interesting question.

First, I don't really think of my butt needing support. Maybe other people's do need support. Chances are too that if you are a runner then your butt is pretty tight anyway.

Secondly, here's my confession. I wear them when I wear tight, elastic shorts. If I don't then you can see an underwear line and my bootie looks bigger.

Maybe she's conservative.

No undies (of any sort) under the workout clothes for me. Full commando baby!

Absolutely. They are very comfortable, and they don't ride up at all... I wore them for years to exercise, (generally aerobics type activities) until I discovered I didn't **NEED** to wear underwear while exercising! I'm now commando... (Well, not RIGHT now, but you understand...I'm a commando convert.

So, definitely, it's possible, and dare I say, even likely!

I think it is a new trend for younger- than-me women to wear a thong sticking up above the pantsline.  I would only wear one if there were serious VPL (visible panty line) issues with what I was wearing...mine don't stick up out of my pants which is the point of wearing it originally (not to see underwear!!)

The real question is, "Did you manage to stay on the treadmill during this gaze?"

The only reason I ever wear a thong under running shorts is when I'm going to be doing abs on the flexball (so I am laying backwards on the ball facing a mirror) and I'm wearing short but loose shorts, and I prefer not to flash anyone! Other than that, it is commando! Some people are funny that way though, they'd wear underwear under a swimsuit if you let them!

for the younger females, whatever is confortable, as for me being older (50) I enjoy loose sweat pants so undies is good.  I heard some older ladies (much older than me) at our gym call them  "BUTT FLOSS"  - then I fell off the treadmill !!

The real question is, "Did you manage to stay on the treadmill during this gaze?"

How I was hoping that this question would not be asked....

Only one slip throughtout the run, but not during the thong show. I'm definitely happy that most of the blood in my body was concentrated on keeping my legs going than working in other places.

If I'm wearing a thong while I workout, it's because I'm wearing loose shorts and don't feel like changing underwear before working out.  If I'm wearing compression shorts, I'll go commando.

It's likely that she had a limited undie supply on the trip.  In such a case, it doesn't make sense to change out of underwear that is already classified as dirty (e.g. not suitable for putting on after a shower) into another pair when you're just gonna get that pair sweaty.

As for comfort, I don't really find thongs any worse than regular underwear when exercising (though no underwear is much better).  After all, underwear all ends up in my crack anyway.

BTW -- underwear doesn't provide support unless you're wearing a girdle.  Compression shorts do, but not underwear.  That's like suggesting that a little lacy bra is gonna help when you're running. ;-)

Somehow, I knew this thread would deteriorate to pictures.....

Unreal!

I skip the underwear unless I'm wearing lycra shorts with a seam, then I have to wear it - you know, chafing and all....
