I was just wondering if it would work out well for a great taper starter?

What do you think? Smart? Stupid?

Has anybody done this before and have some experiance?

THank you

I think it's a bad idea for most athletes.

That's exactly what I'm doing.   Doing Pigman HIM in Iowa this coming Sunday, then IM WI 3 weeks later.  Haven't done a HIM that close to an IM before, but I think 3 weeks is enough time to recover and taper for the IM.  May not work for others.

Smart?  If I'm standing in the 2008 Kona registration line on Monday morning after the race...smart and/or lucky.    Stupid?  If I'm standing in the IM WI 2008 registration line on Monday morning.....stupid.      I'll let you know on September 10.

I think it fully depends on the individual and how fast they recover from an effort.  and of course, it depends on how hard you go for the HIM.  If you race it all out I think the average athlete would sacrifice a bit of their performance for the full.  However, if it is done as a training race and taken at a moderate pace, then it would be easier to recover from.

Those are my thoughts.

I think its a bad idea, however it does depend on how you recover and how hard you intend to race it. A HIM six weeks out would be ideal!

It would be strictly training, nothing fast just to go out and do. I think the closest 1/2  would be 4 weeks out but logisticaly not possible for me. I thought I would use it as a long brick ride with a swim tossed in just for fun.

Waiting to see your results in Sept!

Thanks Everyone.

I'm considering something similar.

The Florida Challenge 1/2 is on Oct 20, two weeks before IM FL.

I'm only considering it because I have a 4 hour ride and one hour swim scheduled that day anyway, so why not throw in a couple hours of running and call it a weekend.....

As some background, IM Florida will be my first full IM race and I've done one half and a couple of marathons previously.

Any thoughts?

well if you do not push too ahrd I think you would be ok. Experience is a factor too. More you do these kind of races the better the recovery becomes.
