Subject: Co2 and a spare tube?
I'm doing my first Tri, a sprint on Sunday, is it reccomended to carry a couple Co2 cartridges and a spare tube during the race? Being from bike racing its something you don't bother with....

If you have a flat do you want to be able to fix it and finish your race, or wait an indeterminate amount of time for the sag wagon?

Or, like in most of my races, get a DNF and walk to the transition area with a bike on your bike...(there is no SAG wagon)

So yeah, bring them

I think in triathlon there are a lot of people who are there for a sense of personal accomplishment.  They want to finish no matter what happens so they carry a spare tube and CO2.   If you would rather not finish than to finish way back, then just pack it in if you flat.  For most races, a flat pretty much wipes out any chance to place, even for the fastest guy in the field.

Regardless, it's a lot easier to get back to transition if you can fix the flat, even if you have packed it in.

I had the pleasure of double flatting at the Xterra East Coast Championship this year. Had a spare to change the front when it went, then a couple miles the rear went. I just started my run early until another competitor gave me a CO2 cartridge and tube, there were only a couple miles left. I'm glad that's the only Off-Road race I do.
