Would anyone like to get together on Saturday, Oct. 23rd for an endurance ride on the Silver Comet? We could meet at the first trail head just off 285 and go for a two hour ride. Say we meet at 8:30 am.

here's their website for directions:
http://www.pathfoundation.org/trails/sc.cfm

Any takers?

Bethany,

Oh I'd love to ride, it seems like I haven't had a good bike ride for a while now. The 23rd is a bad day for me though. It is the day of the anual pumpkin carving contest and as the returning champion this year I have this great pressure to create a masterpiece of a pumpkin.(oh the fun fun hours and hours of scribing etching and filing) Don't count me out or in just yet and I'll see what I can do to make it to the ride by tomorrow.

Aims is in. Chenryiv is in. Still waiting to hear from a couple more.

Anyone else???

Let me know. It will be fun. And hopefully we will still have some warm weather and no rain. Thanks,
Bethany

So you want to start at Mavell Rd?  How far do you want to go?  Maybe 32 - 38 miles?  I think it's best to start at the trailhead like you mentioned because after you pass the rest area at the 11/12 mi marker, there are no other places to refill water bottles.  If we do, say, 18 miles out and back, we'll get that water stop at a good place.  Anyway, I'm in.  I live about 3 miles from the trailhead and if someone else brings a cell phone (I don't have one) I'll put Hubs on standby in case there's a problem and we need to be picked up.  Also, my house is available for post-ride hanging out, showers, whatnot.  I'll pm you with my phone in case of problems or plan changes.

Its not supposed to rain till Sunday.  What do you ladies think about a guy tagging along?  TPlauche needs to carve pumpkins (as though that were a good excuse), but I'm hoping he'll come to his senses and join us.

Anyone up for 40 miles?

I'm still good for Saturday even though I had that accident last night. I'm fine and I can borrow my hubby's car.

Looks like there's going to be a good size group. I'm excited!!! Feel free to bring spouse/friends if you like.

I'll be up for 40 miles. It's such a nice trail to ride on that the miles go by so quickly.

Whit, thanks for being open to letting us come to your house. Let's play it by ear. If it ends up raining during the ride then maybe we could head back to your house and get to know each other better.

So 8:30 on Saturday. See ya then.

Thx.

Is a new guy welcome too?
What kind of pace do you guys maintain? I don't want to get dropped too quickly. I haven't been on a bike in a while but it would be great to meet some of you all and RIDE!

Alan,

Yes, a new guy is more than welcome!!! So please come. The trail is flat and if there is not much of a headwind then it is easy to average about 17/18 miles per hour. If that's too fast and you need to then you can draft off of me and you will be working 22% less.

If two hours or 40 miles is a bit too long for you then you can always turn around when you need to. But please come. It will be nice to meet you and for all of us to get to know each other.

See you Saturday...

Bethany,

When and where is packet pickup?  Just kidding, looking forward to seeing you and the rest of the BT crew Saturday morning.  I hope the weather cooperates, the weather channel has moved the rain up from Sunday to Saturday afternoon.  Hopefully, we'll be done well before any of the wet stuff starts falling.

There is no race packet pick up prior to the ride. For this one there is no packet required, just a bike, something to drink and lots of endurance. Can't wait to meet everyone on Saturday.

Oh, and if I remember, I have a video that I thought I'd give to whomever wants it. It's the strenght training video from Train Right to be done on a trainer. Our VCR died during all those storms last month. And for my birthday I got the whole collection on DVD which included that one and I don't need two.

If you are interested then let me know. Again, it's FREE to a good home, just have to promise to use it. If I don't have any takers then I'll post it on the classifieds.

See you Saturday at 8:30,
Bethany

I picked up two packs of those individual Powerades for everyone after our ride. If I have time, I was thinking about making some peanut butter sandwiches for everyone.

Browe79 - 2004-10-21 1:52 PM I picked up two packs of those individual Powerades for everyone after our ride. If I have time, I was thinking about making some peanut butter sandwiches for everyone.

In that case, I'll take mine on fresh Honey Wheat bread, heavy on the SMOOTH pnut butter and a nice slathering of damson plum jam.  Please remove the crusts and cut in triangular quarters.  Oh, and a large glass of 1% milk (very cold).

Bethany, actually, that is very nice of you to offer, but I won't need the PBJ.  I'm usually not very hungry for a while after working out.

Can someone bring a digital camera so that we can get a group photo? I'll try to remember mine but it is old school so it will take a couple days for me to get the film developed. If you've got the other kind then we can post pictures early next week.

I'm so glad there isn't a baseball game on tonight. I need some sleep. See you all TOMORROW,
Bethany

Atree, bananas sound great! I've got plenty of powerade for us afterwards.

Here is the head count that I have so far:

1. Whit- (Whit)
2. Motivated- (Karl)
3. Aims- (Amy)
4. Chenryiv- (Crispin)
5. Atree- (Alan)
6. Browe (Bethany)

That makes six. Good size group. 3 boys, 3 girls. Anyone else is still welcome. I've been trying to convince Dominic to come. He's the one who just got the new Fuji bike. Maybe if we all bug him then he'll give in.

Hey everybody, that was a blast!  Lets do this again soon.  Next time, lets plan for some socializing afterwards so we can have a beer or two to celebrate the end of the workout.

It was great to meet everyone.  Thanks again for coming out, thanks Bethany for giving us all the push to get together.

Have a great day.

We did it!!! 50 miles on the Silver Comet. Great ride everyone! I had fun and it was good to get to meet you all. Thank you for coming out. I agree with Karl; we should plan something after a ride.

I think I'm going to be glued to the couch for a while. Feels good to relax after a long ride this morning.

Thanks again. Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
Bethany
