Hey is anyone watching that show the Biggest Loser. It's the latest reality show. My God, one contestant lost 22 pounds in ONE week. How can I do that? I don't care if it's healthy or not. I'd lose 22 pounds in one week I'd be very close to my target weight in no time. Geez.

Not watching the show b/c the Boston game is on. I like the idea of the show. I'm all about reality shows that help people.

As for losing 22 lbs in one week, maybe the only way to do that is to get pneumonia (sp?) or try fasting. Neither one are good for the training.

Guess you just have to be patient and take the weight off over a couple weeks or months.

I would click back and forth to it. That dude could lose 22 pounds because he had no base fitness level, and he had a WHOLE bunch to lose.

YOU are blessed with a good base fitness level, and no where near the amount of weight to lose, so barring liposuction (which would TOTALLY hork up your training schedule) I don't see you losing 22 pounds in a week.

*Geeky Engineer Warning*
I don't think its right that they are going just on pounds lost. The bigger contestants have more to lose, so it easier for them to lose. The largest percentage lost would be more fair.

I agree, but not too bad for a reality show.  And what's with the guy who said he was a personal trainer or fitness trainer at one time?  Wonder what happened to him?

The ONLY way you could lose 22 lbs in a week is with some crazy water loss.

Honestly, I think the show will be very unhealthy. People will be doing anything to drop weight FAST. Hello, eating disorder! There's not much sense in losing the weight so fast that your metabolism is destroyed and your body is left more unhealthy than it began. I have a friend who lost 100 lbs on a crash diet and she has spent years trying to repair the horrible damage done to her body. While I think it's cool that they're bringing obesity into the spotlight and putting a human face on how difficult it is to lose weight, this will give America the WRONG idea and I think it's horrible. It's also horrible that they seem to want to showcase these people in bathing suits so that they are humiliated and America can gawk. Low.

I watched too Ovetta!  I also wondered if there was a bunch of water weight loss.  I thought they got weighed at the end of a hard day of exercising.  And maybe they didn't drink any water for weigh in.

Who knows?  It is an interesting show - it's cool to see people pushing themselves.  I just hope they are doing so safely!

edit:
Forgot to add, the most I've lost in a short time was around 25lbs in two days. It was easy, all I had to do was eat some fish. Fish poisoning is a great thing for weight loss, if anyone's seriously interested.

Great Kim. I'll try that! :0

Seriously though I'm torn. It's great to see a show about a real life problem - losing weight. Most reality shows are so phony with their gorgeous hunk saying he can't find a mate and has to resort to a television show. Gimme' a break. Looking at this show there's no question these folks need to lose weight.

But I was appalled when the team members started ragging on the biggest guy because he ONLY lost 13 pounds and they felt he should have lost more. I mean you're safely only supposed to lose 1-2 pounds a week. It was so unrealistic in the way you're supposed to lose weight, you know, healthy, and without putting too much stress on your body. I'd be curious to see how the show progresses when they stop losing water weight and have to lose some real weight?.

My sentiments exactly. I'm very worried about these people. ONLY 13 lbs?! It took me 4 months to lose ONLY 13 lbs! But it's stayed off for twice that at this point and will continue to stay off. I'm damn proud of doing it. What happens when these people gain some muscle weight, which will lower their weekly "loss"? Will they be castigated for that?

Castigated. Great vocabulary word.

I didn't see this show, but I heard all about it! I too wonder if they are trying to humiliate these poor people into losing weight...? Some folks said it was a really inspirational, while others said it was downright awful and humiliating. I don't know... I hope the contestants are not being exploited for the sake of TV.... but at the same time, they did KNOW they were going onto a TV show which entailed a contest to lose weight. So, I guess I'm torn and I cannot comment without seeing it.

I can say, however, that a 22 lb weight loss in a week is bizarre and unhealthy. There's no way that can be good for a person. Better to take it off gradually... Although I did hear the contestants are working out **5** hours a day!!!! OMG.

I think the only thing that's interesting about the show is the approach the 2 coaches are taking around their teams' diet. I checked them out on the website and if I remember correctly, one has frequent small portion meals with exercise. The other has a reduced calorie diet with exercise. It just doesn't feel right though to compete on who can lose that weight as fast as humanly possible. I'm happy to see people charged up about losing weight, and going about it in a structured way and all - especially with the inclusion of exercise. Putting it on display doesn't seem right.

I don't like the premise of this show at all. The group who loses the least amount of weight collectively has to vote someone off. What is that going to do for the poor person who gets booted? Make them feel even worse about themselves, that's what. Like she's failed her group and herself.

Awful. I think it's just awful.

It seems that this week, the weightloss totals are more realistic. After losing all of that water weight last week, many of the competitors were disappointed with their 2nd week results. The more I watch this the more I have problem with some of the messages being sent. I am afraid that people will see these people exercising in excess and try to jump tight in themselves, leading to injury. I also don't loke seeing being voted off and sent home afterthey have worked hard and had some initial success. I don' t know how or if the producers are following up wi th those voted off. I would feel better if I knew that after they were voted off that they still had access to a coach/trainer until they met their goals.

Some of those folks looked like they were gonna cry after they *only* lost 3 lbs! I was thinking "No, that's great! What are you thinking?!" Even one guy who lost 7 lbs looked sad. And I couldn't believe when the guy who lost 22 lbs last week and didn't lose any this time, the other team was jumping for joy! Ugh!

I had it on mute because I was on the phone with my sister, but did anyone ever point out that that's NORMAL? They really need to let a medical professional talk on their show about what's normal, what's healthy and what's dangerous. Because this is ridiculous.....

Yeah,

I was afraid this was going to happen. That after losing the water weight the real slow weight loss would begin and people would be getting sad because they can't lose a lot. I really wish this show would do a disclaimmer on how you're really supposed to lose weight. It's like the Atkins show or something. It's crazy and wrong.

I wonder if anyone has actually explained the math behind losing weight to them, and what I mean is calorie deficit. If the loss of one lb equals 3500 cal, spread out over a week, would be a 500 cal. deficit per day. SO if these people are expecting to lost 4-5 lbs a week, they would need to run a daily deficit of 2000-2500 cal. per day. In other words, they wouldn't be able to eat ANYTHING!!!! It just appals me that the people that produce this show let these people have those expectations.

Maybe they should have also told them, that when the body senses it's going into starvation mode, it's going to be that much harder to lose weight. UGH.

My opinion of this show is going steadily downhill. Never realized that the smallest loser would get booted from the show. This show is now about who can cannibilize their bodies the quickest. What started out as curiosity on my part is slowly turning to disgust.
