Subject: Buy a used QR Ti-Phoon?
I am just starting triathlon training and I have the opportunity to buy a 5 year old QR Ti-Phoon from an extremely experienced triathlete ( a neighbor); it has speedplay frog pedals and Dura-ace - Feels very fast and comfortable despite my inexperience with clipless pedals. My neighbor will make sure it fits me, but if it fits (which I think it will), I was just wondering about the durability of this bike - I would like it to last for a while as it looks like this bike is something I will need to grow into! Any thoughts?

It's Titanium. Durability is excellent. You can take the bike up to a shop for a quick once-over by them to be sure. It's a good idea to take 'everything' off of the frame and build it back up to make sure it's internally clean based on that age. I am currently searching the net for a used Ti-phoon as that is the frame I want. Good luck and you have an excellent opportunity. Which wheelset is on it currently?

Ti-Phoons are rock solid. I'd second the above post. Get it re-built, ground up, and the only thing they're not going to be able to help you with is the wheelset. Find out how many miles are on 'em. And if it's, lets say, >5000, might be time for new bearings.  Other than that, I'd have no reservations.

That frame will survive pretty much anything (short of a nuclear blast). You may need to replace some of the parts hung on it at some point, but you'll have one of the best possible skeletons to base it all on.

Thanks for the advice - it sounds like this will be a good investment for me!

I also forgot to mention that the husband of my neighbor worked for the American Bicycle Group for years, designing and selling bikes - so I'm sure he'll make sure it is in good shape for me!
