watching the news this morning (after watching game highlights again )  and it looks like this thing is going to be ugly.  So what do you think?  did he do it?  is he a perv or are they just trying to bring him down?  Interesting to watch it unfold......

Well, it sounds like there's tapes... so I guess the question is not so much did he do it, but was she a willing partner who is now changing her tune (that's not normally something I'd say about a woman in a victim's position, but you have to wonder when she let it go on so long... just seems like there were lots of times where one would hang up rather than sitting an listening to him go on and on).

I don't think highly of the guy personally. Throw him to the dogs!

Yeah, Lara, those are kinda my questions too. Apparently, the innappropriateness went on for quite some time... and some of the phone calls also lasted awhile. Bill O'Reilly is probably powerful at FOX beyond belief (he's their little star....), but I just don't understand being that scared of someone else's power. But perhaps she is... and perhaps that's why he chose her?

I don't disagree at all, but I just don't know. You don't have to be a shrinking violet to be very influenced by powerful people... but I can't see putting up with something like that for more than 5 seconds ('course, I'm kinda mean). Whether her allegations are true or not, if the tapes prove to be for real, I'll still laugh my arse off. Pervy Bill O'Reilly... LOL!

It certainly will be interesting.

Lara,

I completely agree with you. When I first read this story I thought, sounds like O'Reilly, You just know he's a letch. But c'mon woman, it takes two to have a phone conversation. She didn't HAVE to stay on the phone. She could have left. And at one point she did and then CAME back! I mean, what is the deal? Was she a victim or not? If someone was sexually harrassing me (which by the way happened to me before), it would take two seconds for me to realize my options. Option A: Figure out if the person is too powerful to topple. If so then I'd tell my superiors and then get the heck out of there. Option B: If he's a peon and not that powerful, I'd tell my boss and demand a better salary in exchange for no lawsuit and that the guy gets fired.

There are many things that I will tolerate but sexual harrassment is not one of them and I certainly wouldn't call someone who kept talking to me like that.

Well, according to the bits I read of the actual court documents (linked above), the phone conversations were more like O'Rielly soliloquys (hmmm, am I surprised that O'Rielly would soliloquy?!) and she did say stuff occasionally like "You're my boss, you shouldn't be talking like that." But lord knows what tone that was said in!? And apparently she called him because he was repeatedly leaving messages that made it sound work related.

Not saying I woulda hung in there, just saying we don't know her or all the circumstances. After some recent high profiles cases, I feel another unfair judgment made by the public and carried out in a court of law will scare any girl off from coming forward again.

I don't know if she did go to any supervisors or what she said back or anything. Being human, I went straight to the juicy bits so I could laugh at how pervy Bill O'Reilly is....

Edit: just wanted to add this editorial piece about O'Reilly http://slate.msn.com/id/2108355/

Thanks for the link, I am now informed. I have some of the same beliefs as the man but I can't stand him. Who told this man that he was God?  I use to watch him all the time and in the past few years he is starting to repulse me. I'm really not that found of anyone in the media.  Let's all move to Montana and live off the land.  No TV, no Radio, just me, my bike, and my dogs (oh, and my husband).

Already over.

Wrongdoing claim dropped, no more lawsuits, no alleged tapes coming out.

What a bunch of nothing.

Oh, except his ratings got a boost and she probably got a bunch of cash.

I can't help but think that some people in America today feel the need for fame, and only see two ways to get it: reality shows, or lawsuits against someone famous.  See also: Kobe Bryant.  I feel that both Bill and Kobe were wrong to initiate anything, considering they're married, but I think both accusers were greedy.

it may be very much like the bill/monica/linda tripp thing - it went on for a while then one day she realized she needed to let it go on a bit longer and document it in order to either a) cover her own butt or b) bring him down or c) an attempt at both. especially after the monica tapes, anyone who doesn't live in a cave will probably think 'what if i tape it?' my guess - she is not a shrinking violet. she's an educated women who went along with it just long enough to get evidence that it was happening.
