I don't know about you guys but I have to force myself to get out and run while at the same time I have to force myself to stop riding my bike. I just plain don't enjoy running. Am I a freak or a cyclist pretending to be a triathlete?

Everyone has something that they love, and something that they dislike.

What's wrong with running?  Why do you dislike it so much?

I think that may be normal for some people. My wife and I are both like that on the swim. We can run or swim all day long and have a blast, but swim workouts are a drag (pun intended).

I don't like running because it hurts my legs in a non-muscular way after a while, I don't get the speed and wind in my face that I get from riding, and while I'm running time just seems to drag on forever. Strange thing is that I love long hard multi-day backpacking trips.

Why don't you do duathlon's instead? maybe swim and bike or something, then you do not have to deal with something you do not want to do. You may have more fun?

I used to only like cycling but after running for 4 years I like it and miss it when I can't run due to injuries.

I say keep at it, suck it up and it will get better. In time if you don't like it why be a triathlete. I had to come to terms that I'm a better cyclists, okay runner and slow swimmer, but I enjoy all three (love cycling most) to keep consistant. If we work at what we are good at the other 1/2 will never get better.

I'd like to start doing stuathlons - rock climb, bike, drink!

I hate running too. I love love love swimming, and I like riding (except that I'm getting sick of this one particular trail but I'm kinda scared about roads). I think it's because I'm just NOT a runner - it's so much harder on my body than anything else. I can do a lot of activities for a long time without getting winded, but man, running just kicks my a$$. I've gotten a little better, but I'm still pretty pitiful and I don't really enjoy it.

And a stuathlon sounds fun!

I also started out not liking running for many of the same reasons you mention, and it has gotten better. I'd really suggest buying the book ChiRunning by Danny Dreyer. For people like me who don't come from a running background, it is a great book on running technique. Most importantly, it teaches you how to run with less pounding on your body, which means less pain, injuries, etc. It also helped me run faster, but the big plus was just learning to run so it didn't pound my body so hard.
