Subject: Favorite Bike Shops in Phila?

Hi All,

My house in Houston is under contract now... which means that if all goes well, I'll have the money to buy a bike soon!    Am looking at several different road bike brands and so will probably need to visit a couple of different shops to try them out.  What are your favorite LBS's, specifically for road bikes?  I'm ready to spend up to $1100 for a built bike (not counting pedals, computer, extras), if that matters.  Thanks for your input!

Great news!  I hope everything works out.

Some to check out...

Cadence in Manayunk

Human Zoom in Manayunk

Breakaway (1923 Chestnut)

Outside the city there is also Keswick, Guy's, and High Roads.  That is all I know off the top of my head.  As far as your bike, obviously get what fits the best and makes you happy.

My friend just went through the same process in the same price range.  By shopping around the area he was able to get a Fuji Team carbon for about $1K.  It is the end of the season so you may be able to snag a good deal.

Good luck!

I stopped over at Keswicks in Glenside for a road bike. The guy I spoke with was great. I was really impressed with their service. I opted for a e-bay bike to save some dollars but atleast I can say you'd get treated well if you went there.

I checked out store websites to see which brands they represent.  Cadence has a slew of high-end brands, a couple of which I hadn't even heard of!  The bikes seemed tailored to serious racers or serious-racer-wannabes.  Got the feeling I won't see anyone not wearing a full team kit.

Human Zoom's site mentioned Trek & Cannondale.  Breakaway didn't list their brands, but appear to carry Giant, Fuji, maybe others.

Thanks for the help guys!  My plan for now is to call & try a few bikes at Keswick and Breakaway first, then maybe others.  Keswick also sponsors Sturdy Girl cycling club, which is nice.

In the past 2 years I've bought bikes from both High Roads & Keswick, and was very happy with both shops. Brian at Keswick spent several hours with me over 3 or 4 visits helping me select & fit a bike. I'd say they're definitely worth checking out.

Celeste, you may want to check out Performance bike as well.  They have a shop in Montgomeryville and Paoli.  If you join their yearly discount deal, 10 percent back on each purchase, and wait for one of their frequent sales, usually 20 percent - and sometimes that's on a bike that's already discounted, you could get a really good deal.  I think they carry Schwinn in Montgomeryville.

Hmm, and at least on the website, the 2007 version of my old bike is available and on sale:  http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?sku=24472

Will add Performance to my list.

I vote for CycleFit in Swarthmore. Gregg, the manager, usually has some "frankenstein" bikes lying around that he can cut you a good deal on.

My second vote goes to Performance, for all the same reasons mentioned here.

You get 10% back on all purchases as a Team Performance Member; you get free lifetime service on your bike (this doesnt include you wiping out and breaking stuff); and I think they have some instant rebates on all of their bikes right now, plus the 10% you'll get on the bike when you buy it, assuming you sign up for the Team Performance program (which costs $25 per year).

In Paoli, they sell Scwinn, Fuji, Iron Horse, Scattante (which I think is their house brand), some Giant.

Their service prices arent unreasonable.
