Keeping Perspective....

Swim- 10,000 yards
Bike- 160 miles
Run- 40 miles
Total Time- 15:30

This was a continuation of my run week from last week but it ended with my longest ride. The week began with the 12x400meter repeats at the track below 1:20. Ouch. My ride that afternoon was a struggle to say the least. This Kona build has been so different from my IMAZ build. Less volume, more intensity. with my lackluster run pacing over the past 10 weeks, I was becoming concerned. Well, the day after the intervals, I went out and cracked of 8 miles @ 6:51 and repeated that on Friday. It worked, my coach is a genius.

Speaking of my coach, on Thursday, instead of another ride on the CompuTrainer, we had a mental health session. We talked for over and hour and half about my journey, my current feeling about triathlon, and my thought son the future. For over 14 months I have trained Ironman. I never had an off season. Next year will be a year to just have fun and try and discover a better understanding of this sport beyond the hyper-competetive razore edge which I have danced on since my first race a year and half ago.

I ended the week with a monster 120.5 mile ride @ 22mph w. 4320 feet of climbing at a comfy 144HR and a solid 17.3 mile run on Sunday at a 7:06 poce. Some more biking this week, then swim week, and then it's taper time.

I'm ready.

Definitely a good idea to plan out your next season, and good to hear it will be more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-the-pants year!  You've got Boston on the schedule, but the rest sounds like it should be a relaxing and fun time.

'08 will be my all or nothing to get to Kona for me.  I've been ballz to the wall for almost 3 years now with big goal races two or three times a year.  I don't want to burn out, so we'll see how I do at LP in July and then refocus and recharge.  Even if I get to Kona, it will just be all about the experience there and not at all about the time - just like I did for Boston.

Your training is looking awesome and it looks like you are right where you need to be, keep it up!

Bryan,
I can't wait to see your upcoming performance. You definitely have a fan here in Oregon cheering you on. I'll be in Hawaii the week prior to the race and I can't wait. Although I'll be on Maui I'll be thinking of all this year's participants. My schedule following IMAZ has been ALL SWIMMING. Fighting a really bad case of PF that I can't seem to get rid of. I've decided to drop out of the Portland Marathon and concentrate on getting healthy. I'm averaging 12,000-15,000 yds/wk in the pool and definitely seeing the benefits. I've just recently got my bike back down and will start riding again. Haven't had the urge to get on my bike for awhile. Mentally though I've decided that next year will be a "fun" year and will stay around and do only local races, with nothing being too long. My next IM will be CDA in '09.

Have a nice taper and good luck!!!

Hey thanks Pat. Sorry to hear about the P.F., I think I am strating to get it a little in my right foot as well. Nothing bad yet, just some soreness in my arch which seems to come and go quickly and isn't an issue..yet. I'm going to ry to put some arch support into my shoe's and see if that helps.

And, from the very back of the pack...

Swim- 6,250 yards
Bike- 122.5 miles
Run- 23 miles
Total Time- 17:34

My biggest week of training ever (by time), and my full first week back since the catheterization. My 'cath quad' is still yellow and bruised, and the first thing to get sore, but it's getting stronger again every day. It's hard to believe that I leave for Kona two weeks from tomorrow, but so it is.

I had another long bike yesterday. I have a final long run next week, and then it's all about resting, hoping, and respecting the race. That bike cutoff looms large in my mind, but I'm going to do what I can do get there.

Stay on top of it. It is a . I had a slight case training for IMAZ and didn't have any issues during the race, but during my Portland Marathon training it blew up on me and it has been a nightmare. I've only run once since May, (last Friday) and I'm paying for it right now. You would think it would have gone away with taking so much time off. My PT's think there's something else involved that we haven't figured out yet, so it's off to see another specialist in a couple weeks.

Good luck and STRETCH your calves & soleus'

nhmorgan - 2007-09-17 12:06 PM What is PF?

Plantar fasciitis. Googling it will find you lots of info.

Keep up the great work, Josh and Bryan. Can't wait to follow your journey on race day.
