Total Time = 1h 42m 27s
Overall Rank = 217/253
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 28/31
Pre-race routine:

hydrate hydrate hydrate!
Event warmup:

It was super cold the morning of the race!! I layered up(minus pants I was only wearing my bike shorts on the bottom) I arrived early and slowly took off layers as my body aclimated to the cold. I think that helped me as other were truly cold when we started the swim!
Swim
  • 19m 10s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt like I wasn't moving!! I know I was but it just felt like I wasn't going anywhere! I tried to concentrate on my stroke more but I think my nerves got the best of me and I found myself out of breath pretty quickly...might have been the cold air too.
What would you do differently?:

get more swim practice in
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 didn't go so well. my fingers where so numb I had a hard time getting my swim shoes off and my socks/cleats on...also the string to my nose plug got stuck on my braid...that was definately frustrating!!
What would you do differently?:

maybe go back to a nose plug with out a string...although that is how I lost my last one at my last tri...as far as my fingers go I might have my husband hand of one of those hand warmers to me as I head into transition so by the time I get to my bike my fingers may have warmed up
Bike
  • 41m 42s
  • 10 miles
  • 14.39 mile/hr
Comments:

The ride went really well. but I can't wait to get a road bike. my Gary Fisher is like a tank compared to the bikes I saw flying past me!
What would you do differently?:

GET A ROAD BIKE!!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

went smoothly...except my back tire didn't want to go back into the rack but it was only minor
Run
  • 41m 37s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 13m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

NO ONE WAS WALKING AT ALL!!! oh man was I out of my element! running is definately my weakest event. I cannot run without stopping and walking to catch my breath...I got passes by more people while on the run portion than I can even tell you!! This is where my race numbers went down severely!
What would you do differently?:

run more prior to the event! Starting tomorrow (I am too sore today) I am going to try to run every day!
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

My body! The run was very hard for me! I really need to work on my run!!

Event comments:

I really liked this race. From a spectator stand point it was done really well, the swim, transitions, and finish were very close to each other. plently of place to park and a playscape for the kids. lots of vendors on race day (would have liked more on Saturday) Great event!

Nice job.  A road or tri bike will definately make a difference over the mountain bike.

Congrats Jennifer! You did great! I was there too and it was COLD!! I seriously did NOT want to get into the water, but really the lake was like a bathtub! The run was tough even for the runners. Good job gettin' it done!

oh… and as already suggested… don't run every day. you'll hurt yourself. Run 3 or 4 times a week nice and slow til you build up some strength and endurance. otherwise you'll end up injured!

hey, good job. the run course was tough if you are not used to trails but you sound psyched and eager to improve. so guess what? you will. plus that road bike will seem sooooooooo fast.
