Subject: Why I Love Training in Bad Weather
Okay, so I actually don't like training outside in bad weather, but I'm not a hamster and I'm not spending the winter on the trainer and treadmill. And since I live in the Northwest, I'm guaranteed some wet, chilly weather coming up in the next few months. So, help me out here with reasons you like training in bad weather to help inspire me. Here's what I've come up with so far:

1. Don't have to wear sunscreen
2. Cozy long sleeved jerseys
3. I feel like a hard a$$ running in the rain
4. Not overheating when putting on the wetsuit
5. ???

Sorry to put a damper on your fun time, but EVERYONE should wear sunscreen YEAR ROUND.

Other than that...
1. Quieter trails
2. No swarms of bugs
3. Running in the rain is sublime
4. Everything tastes better after a cold wet workout

1. People think you're crazy.

I love it when it storms, I just go run. Its awesome feeling like you're better or more crazy than the guy sitting on the couch.

You get to feel like a kid playing outside in the nasty weather.
It makes you feel tough.
You don't get hot.
Get to shop for more training clothes.
You get to take in your world from different view..ie when snowing/raining

I'd feel pretty silly putting on sunscreen when 90% of my workouts finish before the sun comes up.

I agree with most of the other reasons listed above.

The only other thing I can think of is.....you get your new running shoes really crappy looking right away so that you don't look like a newbie and nobody will want to steal them at the gym.

- knowing that probably more than half of your AG competitors pussed out on the workout when you didn't ...... and it will show on race day!

(I used to like the splashing in puddles during X-Country practice, now I just like that I don't notice the sweat as much in the wet).

We know all women like to look sexy in long gloves, so arm warmers are just an extension of that.

(So what are the guys' excuses??)

I love training in the cold weather - here's why:

1. My times are much faster
2. It feels great when you start to sweat
3. You don't get overheated - or if you do, you just unzip a few things, and you feel fine again
4. Snow coming down as you run is magical
5. Did I say you don't overheat???
6. I love winter running clothes
7. Rain feels great on your face when you run
8. Everyone else has wimped out!
9. A hot bath and a latte after a cold run are AWESOME!!!
and number 10:
10. When it is 6 below zero F, you feel tough when you go out the door

Ah, yes. I do enjoy riding with my pearls as well, but they also only come out in the winter .

I still take an ice bath after my cold, winter runs. But the hot shower afterwards feels good .

  • running on fresh fallen snow
  • looking ahead and seeing nothing but white expanse
  • looking behind and seeing my own footsteps in all that white expanse
  • the crunch of the snow beneath my feet
  • the twinkling of sunlight on ice crystals
  • the hot shower followed by a bowl of hot chicken soup after a wintery run

Googled for "long legwarmers" in the images area and this was a hit!  The stance alone had me cracking up!  I think the ladies should wear these at a race that's around  Halloween.

Yup. Just keep telling yourself that. Eventually you'll believe it.

Training in the rain just makes me think I am in T1 for a long time. I don't really mind as long as I can see where I am going. Funny thing is I got caught in three separate rain showers in 2 1/2 hours of riding Saturday! I didn't mind, other than my gloves getting soggy.

Running in the snow is kind of delightful, except that I am cofortably warm everywhere but my feet. I need something decent to run in that is waterproof, and warmer than my Asics Kayanos.

Because I love training period!

I get bummed by the thoughts of not training because of the weather.
