Subject: First week done
Well, I finished my first week of IM training yesterday.
My first week focused on running. I still had to get in my swims and bike workouts though.
I swam a total of 6500 yards. One day focusing on distance and the other on speed intervals.
I biked a total of 2 hrs 35 min. One day, 1 hr 20 min on the trainer and the other was an easy 18 miles the morning before my 5K race.
I ran 6 days for a total of 28.2 miles. Most days were easy miles at lunch (one day I ran on a treadmill). I had a 5K Sat night and 8 miles on Sunday morning.
Overall it was a good week of training. I really enjoyed having Friday off. Unfortunately I don't have any days off this week and my focus will be on the bike.
I will run 5 days with my long run of 8 miles on Saturday. I will still get in 2 swims totalling 6500-7000 yards, but this week I will get in 2 rides on the trainer during the week then I am doing the bike leg of an half IM on Sunday.
I am going to have to work on my nutrition. I have been losing weight even though I have been eating like a pig. I really need to work on eating good food instead of the crap I've been eating.

Well I guess I have to stop stalling and get out for a run (in the rain)
These 2-a-day workouts are getting harder to get pumped for. I know it will help in the long run, but I can tell I am getting tired.
So send your positive thoughts my way as I will need them
Thanks
Tom

You're doing IMAZ, right? I may have to get a role call of all BTers going there. I'm hoping to volunteer, or at least spectate (if I have that weekend free).

Keep up the good work! Just think, you're doing something that many can only dream of doing. All this training will pay off on the big race day. Then you can enjoy all those goodies afterwards, and they'll taste so much better then.

Nice job Tom! It's a long road to 4/9.

I finally sat down today and figured out an event per month so it wouldn't be just one long training season to IM AZ. Once I started looking, I found a century ride, 200k brevet, 300k brevet, half-marathon, 12k run, 15k run, 10k run and a short tri. At least this will break things up a bit. Now I just need to tell my coach :-)

Two workouts in a day is hard to do, especially when you have other responsibilities!  You are a strong person with plenty of resolve (say it with me..).  You will kick butt!

Tom, just take it one workout at a time.  Keep us posted of your progress.  Believe it or not, in a few months, you'll be looking back at this week's workout and think its's easy!

I've only done one IM but I remember the training vividly!  Listen to your body.  No matter what the workout schedule says, if your body says "take the day off", you need to listen.

Good luck!

Sharon

Thank you everybody!
I think it is great that I have a place to go to for that boost that everybody needs from time to time. I really appreciate the support!

I will keep posting a review of my IM training as long as I'm not boring any of you guys.
Thanks again

Go Tom!!! We're here for you and are definitely looking forward to the rest of your IM Training posts. You are definitely motivating me!

I finally bought the new bike (Trek 1500 WSD). Once I get used to my clipless pedals, or once the rain stops (whichever comes first) we'll have to go for a ride down the coast! Maybe one of your easy days considering you can bike circles around me

Keep up the good work!

Tom,

Great first week, when you cross the finish line it will be work every mile.  You may have already seen these, but there are some PDFs at the site below, look at the bottom right of the webpage.  A little added inspiration.  The one about Lance is good.
