Subject: Ladies - a question about swimsuits and long torsos

Okay, so triathloning has turned out to be no different in terms of difficulty of finding clothes that fit.  When I went to buy a suit, I found out I have a long torso, which makes one piece bathing suits difficult to wear (butt floss anyone?).  Basically, the last time I looked for one, I looked for the one that hung down lowest from the rack.

Unfortunately, my trusty suit is now dead and I need a replacement.  It's either that or get the suit a tummy tuck!  I wanted to order one online, but have discovered that NO ONE offers competition suits with long torso sizing.  The only co. I know of that offers regular suits with that is Lands End and they don't seem to be made to handle lots of chlorine.

So, irritated, I wrote kastaway swimwear asking if anyone made suits for long torsos.  Their response was that it was unnecessary since the legs were cut up high anyway and that I should just get a larger size.  Huh?  So billowing material around the rest of my body is okay?

Does anyone know of a competition/lap suit that comes in long torso sizes?  Right now, my only option left is an exercise bikini.

I have gone to the two-piece for this very reason. BUT for the winter (no more tan ) I've started using my Speedo one piece which is great. They do have long torso suits and I've bought one straight off the rack that fits perfectly. I'm not positive where they say they are long torso. I'll check on the tag when I get home. But I definitely qualify as a long torso-ian as I'm 6'1" and more than half of that is torso...hehe. Good luck and check out the Speedos!

Yeah, they just assume you'll stretch it one way or the other. Tall and skinny? You'll stretch it vertically. Short and fat? You'll stretch it horizontally. I ran into this problem on swim team in HS....

Now that I'm buying my own suits and don't have to look like the rest of the team, I wear a two-piece racing suit. Fits perfect.

Unfortunately I can't offer any suggestions, but I can offer some empathy. I have the same problem with the long torso and having to buy huge swimsuits (the sizes I end up getting are quite disheartening considering my "normal" clothing sizes). My problem is that my butt is big enough to fill up all that "billowing material" but the top part is so big it acts as a drag in the pool!!!! I will probably have to go with the 2-piece.

Thats the one I use - boring patterns, but less 'saggy butt syndrome' when it's wet.

They are good for about 4-5 months in a pool before it's see-through and needs replacing (as Big Red, one of those people you see every morning at the pool, kindly pointed out to me !)

What suit do you have?  Just curious for recommendations.

Geez, we've got the same shape: pear-shaped with long torsos.  It just ain't fair sometimes.

When I was a teen, I would have to buy size 14 suits because I was nearly 6 feet tall (but 115 lbs.-my metabolism has changed significantly since then )  Now I go to www.worldwideaquatics.com and buy my normal size in long torso .  They have the best selection of swimsuits.  I found that while Lands' End suits are good, they can't hold up to workouts.  That is from the Lands' End people themselves.  Sign up for World Wide Aquatics' email coupons.  They have good deals every week.

I am tall and Speedo works for me. I prefer the max back to fly back but if you are not opposed to a little more skin it should be fine.

I have one Nike suit but it seems to be cut a little shorter.

Agree about World Wide. They seem to always have some sort of discount. Lane 4 also has some good buys.

I only see 1 long torso suit at Worldwide Aquatics.  What brand suit do you typically wear?

Well, it's a couple years old, so I can't find the exact model (it's a TYR) but the top is like this: http://www.tyr.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=BTRI1&Category_Code=124, so it has a lot of support. I can use it for running if I need to. And the bottom is more like this: http://www.tyr.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=BRSO1&Category_Code=127. Makes for a really great suit, to tell you the truth. Plus, I was able to get a bigger bottom than top to accomodate my Hugh Jass.
