Allow me to inroduce myself. I am a 45 year old woman who began training at the tender age of 44. Prior to this I had never run a day in my life, had never seen a road bike let alone aero bars and clip on bike shoes, and did not know how to swim. I began training in Jan. and did my first 2 mile swim comp in May. That season I completed in 3 olympic, 1 sprint and a duathlon. As you can see I walked right into the realm of injuries. October rolled around and my shoulders and knees rebelled. I was in physical therapy for 4 months. I am fine now. My next season consisted of one olympic, 2 mile swim comp and the running portion of a duathlon. Here is the best news, I begin training for Ironman Florida next November and hired a new coach. I learned my lesson the hard way. With that said, I am more in love with the sport and plan on competeing for as long as God will allow me.
I am thrilled to be a part of beginner triathlete because of of it's members. I stay in the sport because of the triathletes. There is a sincere comaraderie and genuine bond amongst this group that I have not seen anywhere else.

I'd ditto what you say about triathletes.... there's an underlying understanding that exists, a shared passion for the thrill of the sport and training. It's very invigorating, and there isn't a triathlete that i have run into that isn't like that.

Okay that said... WELCOME to the site. I admire your determination and your accomplishments. I heard somewhere that athletes who start training for a sport are much more dedicated to the whole regimen of the process, than the ones who've been training for the majority of their life. I don't know if that's true or not, but I just felt like sharing that with you.

Lots of luck with the bigger more challening goals coming up!

Thank you all for your kind and encouraging words. Where else can a person come into a sport with no training (esp. at my age, soooo young) and still get this much help and encouragement. Thank you. ;-)
