Subject: 325 Days and Tri'ing
Hello all,

I just wanted to take a moment to express what a tremendous inspiration this site and this sport have been for me in the past 6 months or so. I have been sober for 325 days today and am in my 3rd month of triathlon training. I plan to start racing in the spring.

As youngster and teenager, I was a pretty good athlete. However, when college rolled around I fell into the grips of alcohol where I stayed until December 8, 2003. I am currently in the best shape I have been since high school and have lost about 15 pounds.

Alcohol had been my "recreation" for the past 18 years. I mustered enough courage to quit and was doing well for several months, but I still felt a kind of void. A friend of mine was training for his first triathlon and I started doing some research. I stumbled on this site several months ago and it really got me hooked. I started training in mid August and just purchased a new road bike(gave up the old mountain bike).

I now look forward to my work outs like I used to look forward to getting to the bar or the beer store.

Thanks again to everyone on this site who has ever encouraged anyone.

Well....I don't mind being repetative......WELCOME.........and staying sober to boot......fantastic.....I say this as a son of an alchoholic. I have seen from an outside perspective of what alcpholism can do. All I can say is i firmly believe that the steps you now take determin more for your life than what the past 17 1/2 years have done to you.....I say 17 and 1/2 because you have been training for 6 months. Brilliant.

I look forward to the day we might meet. You never know.
