Subject: Bronze vs Silver IM Plan...help?

BT peeps,
Could someone explain to me why the Silver level full IM training plan has less volume than the Bronze level beginner full IM plan?

I followed the beginner Bronze plan for my first IM, but I'm looking for something not beginner level.   The Silver IM plan having less volume confuses me.

Anyone care to explain?

Remember, they are by two different coaches so the methodology may be different.  Particularly after week 7 in both plans, the beginner plan drops in volume more in rest weeks (probably due to a 'beginner' needing more recovery if this is new volume) before building back up. Ricci's plan (the silver), more consistently stays around the 12-13 hour weekly volume and peaks at 15 hours twice in weeks 7-17.

The Beginner plan DOES peak at hire hours than the Silver (two 18 hour weeks), and has two 15 hour weeks...could be that the coach 'Sherrick' put's more emphasis on a lower possible average speed for a beginner so he compensates in the volume, or he emphasis more 'over training volume' for beginners.

The Silver plan has 9 weeks that consistently gets around 13 hours of volume peaking at the 15 hour mark.

Also remember that the swim times are highly estimated and the estimation could vary by plan.  It could take people longer to do them in one plan vs the other.

I should have the 17 week Intermediate IM plan done this month.  You can see it being built now with workouts and volumes if this may be of any interest as an option.

Not sure if this helps, maybe others can comment on how the plans worked for them.

Do the training plans that come with a membership provide you with the distances and or different types of drills (more so for swimming) for the workouts or are they just based on time?

All plans are time-based just due to the coach's methodology of time vs distance training.

BUT these plans do have swim, bike, run drills and workouts, just look at the '2 week details' of any plan if you are a free member to get the gist of what it is like.

It's my free/bronze plans (with the exception of the Beginner half and full IM plans) that only provide minutes and no workout details...

Silver.  You can find it HERE.

I have 5 weeks up but you can see the entire 'calendar' of minutes and also the first two week details to get the gist of it.

...though it will need proofreading before it's official.

Here is the plan I'm looking at for an OLY for example:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=...

I don't see any information about drills during the workouts. I guess I don't understand what you're talking about. Please clarify, thanks!

Mirg,

You're right, that's a free/bronze plan that I created-it won't have detailed workouts no matter what level you are.  What you want to do is to go to the 'Programs' button at the top to do all the comparisons...not necessarily going through the 'articles' part of the site - you will only get links to plan descriptions.

So go here:

It will show plans defaulting to your current membership.  So in your case you will see the free plans when clicking on 'plan description' and can print out the training plan.

If you want to see samples of the detailed silver plans (gold includes support), then select 'Silver' and then 'triathlon', then sort the 'olympics' via the dropdown. You can go directly to them HERE. 'Plan description' just gives some general info on the plan (who can use/who it's for) but will not include the plan itself.  The 'calendar' will show you the minutes of the entire plan.  'First two week details' will show you the workout details of the plans to sample.

*If you become a silver/gold member, then you will have access to the detailed plans via a training log import or the print versions (complete plan quick view link).

Ok, so I just checked the plans for the silver membership and they look like the types of plans I'm looking for. Even though I'm just starting out in triathlon training I'm working on my base this off season and I January I want to start detailed plans (with more then just time but with drills and distances) for Olympic distance tri's that I want to do during 2008.

Question, if I buy the silver membership am I able to print all the plans that I want for oly's HIM and IM's all at once?

You can.  You're going to use a lot of paper though.

For those who were interested in the 17 week Intermediate IM plan by Ricci, I just finished uploading the swim, bike and run workouts:

Just click HERE, navigate down until you see it.

*I do not have a 'plan description' yet.  But wouldn't you know that it's for those 2-3 year IM'ers.

If you are not Silver or Gold, you can still preview it via the 'First 2 week details' button and the entire 'Calendar' view.

Current Silver and Golds can view the whole thing via the 'Complete Plan Quick View' link.

If you want to get going on it, you can load it up by importing it.

**I still have to upload the strength/core workouts.  It's going to take a few weeks.
***I have proofread and checked the number on all workouts and made corrections as needed.  I will be having a few proofreaders checking the math too in a few weeks.

If any questions on any particular workouts, you can pm me in the meantime until we have officially gone live with it.

Thanks.  Just in time for me to use it for IMAZ.  I assume it'll be 'completely complete' by December 17...that's 17 weeks out from IMAZ.
