Subject: Bike shop recommendations in or around NYC?
Hi,

I rode a borrowed mountain bike with road slicks all season and now I’m in the market to buy my first road bike.  There are so many shops around, each with online reviews that love & hate them, so I was wondering if you all had shops that you liked?

I’m looking to spend around $1500 for everything (bike, pedals, shoes, etc.), and while price is definitely a deciding factor, I wouldn’t mind paying a bit more at a shop that listened and had good service.

Any recommendations?  Thanks.

-Brian

If you don't mind a bit of a ride, Brickwell/North Shore Cyclery is right at the Queens/Nassau border. They stock Trek, Cannondale, and Felt from what I've seen. The owner has been doing tris for about 7 years, as have a few of the employees. He's been very helpful to me as far as answering questions and helping out with equipment decisions.
The shop is at 3 Northern Blvd. Phone is (516)482-1193. Ask for Andrew.

Hope it helps,

Charlie

Go to www.togamultisport.com and follow the link for the shops.

Gotham/Toga is my sponsor shop and I am also a Board Member for the Multi sport club. They have 3 shops in NYC and one in Nyack, NY (20 miles north of the GW) my home shop.

Amongst their shops is the original TOGA, the oldest shop in NYC. I became actively involved with them AFTER becoming a customer as I was so impressed with them...

Call the Eastside shop and talk with Will, you can tell him I sent you. He is great to work with and very knowledgeable....

Good luck...

I've had really good luck with Sid's. They're not really a tri-focused store, mostly catering to roadies, but it sounds like that's what you want. I think there are two branches, I like the one on the East side. They were really helpful to me when I told them I was looking for an entry-level road bike. They've got a big selection of brands and bikes, on-site fittings, etc.

Try Sunrise Cyclery on Long Island. They have a tri specific store off Sunrise Hwy. You will not be disappointed. 520 Sunrise Hwry. W. Babylon. (631) 587-6200

Tell them Gary L. sent you. They have tons of Tri stuff and many, many Tri Bikes. good luck.
