I know. Two things about the athlete guide: WHY ON EARTH IS THE MANDATORY ATHLETE DINNER AT 7:30 ON FRIDAY NIGHT??? I planned on being in bed between 8 and 8:30. And, since when are those finishing after 4 p.m. considered "late finishers?"

Also, we just got an email saying that numbers will be assigned on Monday, July 7. Gulp.

About the "late finisher" thing - NAS has had it written that way in all their athlete guides for many years now. You'd think they would change/clarify it at some point, but that doesn't seem to be at the top of their priority list. 95% of the athlete guide is cut and pasted from one race to the next to the next.

What, you don't think you're going to be able to finish in 9 hours????  Slacker ....

The dinner is fun, and free (for athletes).  I definitely recommend going to it no matter what your plans were for the first IM.

We should all plan on having a BT table or something!

I know. Well, I was thinking my finishing time would be around 5 p.m., but I guess I'll have to run faster to ensure there will be staff in the medical tent when I cross the line...

I know. I won't miss the athlete meeting; I'm just upset it's so late. I hope it doesn't mess me up for race day .

In my original post, I should have called it the mandatory athlete meeting, not dinner. I am fine with the dinner time, just not the meeting time.

No, but I am pretty neurotic. It'll mess with my head if I am not in bed by 8:30. At least I have 3 weeks to mentally prepare myself for it .

I know. That's my usual bedtime, so I am well aware. I think after IM, I might go a little crazy and start staying up until 9:30 or something .

The funny thing is that I'll be finishing the race AFTER my usual bedtime. I wonder how that will go over. haha .

No, I'm not staying on Main Street. I have a condo that's off the main drag, but close to the swim start. What's the road right behind the swim start? Lake Placid School Drive or something? If you start at the swim start, turn your back to the lake, cross that street, then turn left and walk a little bit, my condo is there. It's off the road, so hard to see from the street. Hopefully it'll be quiet.

Anyone going to LP this weekend? A group of us are going to Tupper lake to do the half IM Sun and will be in town by lunch time Sat. I'm hoping to get a little time on the course just to get the excitement stoked a bit more...We are staying in Lake placid.

I'm doing Tupper Half too. Arriving mid afternoon though. Also staying in LP - Summit Hotel.

I plan to get in some Mirror Lake swimming monday morn before I head back. Weather's not looking good though.

I have a question for all you folks that have done the race or have at least ridden the course. Wheel selection... So I am fortunate enough to own a set of 404's that I bought a few years ago and then bought 808's this season. I was going to sell the 404's, but decided to keep them for IMLP. I keep gettting mixed messages.

What I am thinking about riding: 404 front, 808 back (basically a 606 set-up). This gives me the lighter wheel up front and a little stiffer wheel in the back.

What Zipp says: Zipp has a nice place on their website that has wheel selection for every Ironman. They say run the 808's, front and back.

Now, I watched IMLP on Vs. last year and I saw some Pro's (women and men) riding Disc's and 808's, But what I saw the most of was the 606 selection. I look to see what the pro's are riding because they usually have a choice. Most amateurs ride what they have.

Given that this is not a TT and even though I am a strong cyclist, I am not going to be hammering this ride by any stretch of the imagination. I can only fit 2 wheels in my bike box, so I have to ride what I bring regardless of conditions when I arrive (which is another reason I am leaning towards the 606 set-up). Any input will be MUCHO apprecited.

Also, I hear it gets windy on the ascent back up to Whiteface, any thoughts on how windy?

Good luck to all!! We will be swimming 3 weeks from now (well, I will at least, 1:06 into the swim

I rode the course today and almost got killed. Flatted on the decent into Keene at 40mph in a pouring rain storm.

The sides of the roads are very rough, but when race day comes, we will have the road
It is beautiful up here (when it's not raining)

I was there yesterday too. I took the descent in the rain at 25mph and THAT felt fast. On the first loop I maxed out at 43mph. The shoulders were in bad shape in some spots, especially on 73. Other than that we had a pretty good day. I was wearing the "rosie the riveter- We can do it" jersey on the white and yellow Elite.

I've ridden up Whiteface climb back to LP 6 times on 4 different days..4 out of 6 there was significant wind coming down the mountain, twice it wasn't that noticeable.

I only have 404's as race wheels so that is what I'll be using.

Fred glad you had a better day today.

One more week of hard workouts for me, then the taper begins!  Not as strong as I was hoping I would be by this time, but that's how it goes.  There is still IMFL for me, so maybe I still have a chance to get a bit stronger for this year.

Hope you all are feeling healthy and ready for some tapering the next couple of weeks!Cool
