Subject: Another MI transplant - I could use some help!

It is very possible that I could be relocating to the Ann Arbor area sometime in the next month or month and a half... I am not a huge fan of the cold, and this moving thing has me a bit freaked out.  Can you give me an idea of what the area is like?  Any info on the tri scene would be helpful, but also anything in general.  I have never been to Michigan (although I will get my chance next week.. ) so where do I go, what do I need to see, and most importantly where can a girl get a good beer?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Umm, lemme know what else you want covered. Other than the cold, I can help.

Hmmm Michigan, what is there to know??

Yeah it gets cold but the weather is so unpredictable. Last year was about 60 on Christmas.

As far as beer in Ann Arbor, not sure if they have any. I heard there is a small college around there so there might be a bar or 30. I do know the Blind Pig is a great place to drink a lot of beer and see great concerts!!

Other benefits of Michigan, you'll be 1 hour from the largest ghetto in AmericaLaughing

All I can say is that I moved here last Dec. and the outdoor scene has kept me alive.  We're pretty happy here... of course next year when I'm certified and unemployed I may be less happy.

PS. I'll be running the White Rock 1/2 Mary too... we should meet up somehow!!

Just a little northwest of Ann Arbor are some of the better bicycling roads in Michigan. There are several Cycling clubs in the area and the Ann Arbor Triathlon club meets often for guess what - swimming biking and running. It is as good an area in Michigan for triathletes as you will find.

For sure!  There is already a rockin' BT party in the works... I will keep you posted on the details!

Thanks, everyone for your input.  It actually seems that Michigan is even more tri-friendly than Oklahoma!

Next saturday is the Michigan vs Ohio State game in Ann Arbor. I'm sure there will be PLENTY of beer flowing in AA then.

If you mountain bike or trail run, the Ann Arbor area also put you close to some of the BEST trails in the Midwest. GOOGLE "Dances with Dirt" and "Ann Arbor Triathlon Club"...
