Subject: Blister prevention?
I'm looking for suggestions on ways to prevent blisters on my feet. I've bought running socks that wick away sweat, I put body glide on the areas of my big toes that seem most susceptible to blistering, and I've got Mizunos that fit my feet well. Anybody have any other tips/tricks? I know there's no silver bullet answer here(other than 'stop running'), but anything that makes the blisters less likely I'm willing to consider.

I like mole skin.   Put it over the areas that are susceptible to blisters.

Duct tape... or something else in the areas of the shoes that are rubbing.

I second moleskin. Body Glide or a similar product will also help.

if they are on the tops of your toes go get your shoes fit at a runnnign store.  Duct tape works if your feet don't sweat a lot (like mine)  I use wright socks...the ones with smart wool and they have been the magic bullet for me.  Pronation shoes helped (I blister on my arches) Body glide didn't do crap. I sweat off anything that sticks to my skin including duct tape but that does work.  J&J makes some nice blister pad/bandaids that work great to get them to heal.  If you dont' have sweaty feet you can run wth them too.

I know that some people have a difficult time with blisters regardless of what they do to prevent them.  I would definitely look into your shoes a bit more.  I love Mizunos, and I usually buy them because they fit my narrow foot a bit better.  Maybe they may be a bit narrow for your feet in the toe box?  It could also be the seaming inside the shoe that rubs your foot.  Pearl Izumi makes seamless shoes that you might want to try. Good luck!

My feet blister on my arches too, but Body Glide and specific socks have mostly solved that though.

I knew a guy who had to wear those special hiking socks with the separate toes (he said he bought them at REI) because otherwise he'd get blisters on his toes.

Honestly I think it's more due to the lock laces I'm using. The shoes have worked fine for me for over a year - that model, I haven't been running in the same pair the whole time - but I think the lock laces make the shoe fit just tight enough that it rubs. The blisters only appear if I do a run over, say 10k or so, so I think using moleskin or similar should be enough to stave off blisters in the future.

Why not drop the lock laces and treat the problem instead of the symptoms?

I don't think the lock laces are unsolvable, I just need to get a new pair and refit them. Chances are I simply cut them too tightly this time around. I had them on the previous pair and had no issues with blisters, but I'm also running more than I was at that time. I think I'm due a new pair of shoes soon so I'll just knock both issues out at the same time by getting new shoes and new laces. If that doesn't work, well I've got some moleskin now.

I had a blister problem on my arches two years ago that drove me nuts from the pain. I tried running with band-aids, duct tape, and vaseline on the affected areas, in no particular order. I've worn Asics since I began running in high school since they seem tailor made to my foot and NEVER had a problem.

I loosened my laces and the blisters went away. I never retied them after a sprint workout (I like them tight for those) and just slipped them on for the longer runs that followed.

So simple and obvious after the fact, but it was two weeks feeling like I was running on broken glass. Haven't made the mistake again.

I hope your fix is as easy.

I get terrible blisters on the long runs at the ball of my feet. When I get tired, I start to scoot because I can't pick up my feet and it burns like crazy and is awful. Have tried good sox, vaseline and body glide, but to no avail. I am a very slow runner anyway so this happens even when I'm walking. Advice?

I tried moleskin yesterday and it made things worse. The moleskin adhesive caught a bit of my sock in it at some point, so for the better part of 8 miles every step I took meant the sock & moleskin were tugging against each other. That wasn't pleasant.

I'll stick with the body glide, get some new laces, and go from there.
