I've had a rolfer work on my feet, but more for preventative maintenance than to address a specific injury. ART is pretty similar. I say, GO FOR IT! But, be prepared for it to hurt. I have gotten all parts of my body rolfed and I can honestly say the feet were the most painful...and I wasn't even really having issues with them. Healthy PF goes a long way in preventing a handful of other lower-leg injuries as well. Do it!

I think a lot of chiropractors are certified in ART, so look there. If you're interested in finding a rolfer (or learning more about rolf), you can check out www.rolf.org and use the "find a rolfer" link.

The guy I use is in New Jersey, so he won't be of much help, but his Web site is www.imtcare.com if you want to learn more about it.

Good luck!

speedball,

I found a foot exercise for strengthening the foot to help deal with PF and posted about it here. Just something else for you to consider, PF sucks!

Try this one. I became aware of it via a USAT e-mail.

I struggle with PF and just got trigger point set for my birthday. Not sure how it will work but hopeful.

I did ART in the beginning and it helped in the acute stage and then 7 months of PT, switched to a new PT who looked at my whole body and body alignment and figured out that my back surgery 12 years ago I have some stuff out of alignment. We are working on that plus I now were stability shoes as I over pronate due to feet issues I have.

I wish there was an easy answer.

betsy - 2007-12-11 10:38 PM Rolfing hurts like a mofo!

Sure does. But, you get used to it....sort of. I've had about 25-30 sessions, and consider myself an old pro now. I can say, without hesitation, that the feet were the most painful part of the body to get rolfed...and I've had EVERYTHING rolfed.

You can also try, for the PF, rolling your foot on  tennis ball.

Yes, rolling the foot on a golf ball is good.

Getting Super Feet Inserts for your shoes might help if the PF is coming from over-pronating.

A Strassberg Sock can help.

ART, Rolfing, etc can all help assuming that you have scar tissue built up in the PF thats causing the problems.

One area that frequently causes pain in the PF is actually the calf muscle, the gastrocnemius.   If you have a spot on your calf, about 2 inches below the knee and maybe an inch towards the inside, that hurts like a mofo to push on, you've got Trigger Points.  That particular TP leads to pain in the PF.  You will continue to feel pain in the PF unless and until this TP in the calf is worked out.
