All - great site - especially the training log. Didn't get into Tri until 2001 as a way to 'test' myself after back surgery...all went well with the surgery and the Tri! But then I ran two marathons, then got wrapped up riding bikes (and as webmaster for a brutal century ride, raises $ for LAF), and then jumped into Grad School, reintroduced myself to my kids, and, well, there goes the focus...

Soooo...4 years later, at 38, I'm re-immersing myself in Tri. Only having competed in 2 tris (both sprint, both kicked my butt - fast swim, avg bike, 14:00 / mile on the run - sound familiar?) I'm new to the racing side of it but have been training hard in both running and biking. Goal (lofty, not naturally fast at any of the 3 disciplines, someone musta filled me with helium) is to finish a 1/2 IM in 5:30 by 1/1/06, with the goal of a full IM as I turn 40. I'm getting tired just thinking about it.

Look forward to participating in site discussions and helping the beginner tri community. Next contribution: tentative winter training program, looking for comment...

Finally - if anyone knows of a tri group (or individuals) looking to train just north of Detroit (Rochester Hills), please let me know...Thanks.

Rick

Always good to see another Michigander!

Keep up the work-outs, and I hope to see you on the circuit next year!

And actually, they shortened the amount of miles on Belle Isle for this years Detroit Marathon. I think it was only 3 or so...once we got off the island we were left with exactly a 10K. LOL. I remember when I ran Detroit a few years back. Shesh. I thought I'd NEVER get off that damn island (was something like 5 miles)!

Milly - thanks for the thumbs up...why not get back into it with both guns blazing & see what happens?

Fromer - look forward to catching up soon. Yeah, I still have nightmares about Belle Isle. Quick story - 2002 marathon, clicking off 8:00's up until 14 mile mark...everything's peaches and cream, I' bulletproof. So I'm going out onto Belle Isle at mile 12 or 13, and who's coming off Belle Isle but the leaders (at mile 19). Dammit, first chink in my inpenetrable armor.

So by mile 17 it's all down the tubes...starting the run-walk...grabbed the wrong kind of Clif Shot at the aid station and stomach is inside out too...so then I kicked it up a notch and started the walk-run-walk-walk - you get the picture. I'll cut the story short...averaged 13:00's for 19-26, I blame it all on the barren moonscape of Belle Isle and the course that requires you to see the leaders 6 miles ahead of you. Just kidding, my issue :-) , just really horriffic memory of Belle Isle. I will be back to get my revenge...

Rick, if the back is holding up... I don't see any reason why one wouldn't dive right into things. all I know is that as long as the drive is there, no one will be able to stop you!
