Yup, you're ready.  That's what a proper taper does to you- you feel horrible, slow, fat, injured (all those new pains appear somehow) for the first 2 weeks of a 3 week taper, and by the last few days, you feel great (just don't push too hard now, though a couple of short sprints might be good).  It's just part of the process. Good luck!

Spokes, regarding carrying the goo you could use some duck tape to make a loop to slide a finger through so you don't have to concentrate on holding it, you should be able to carry 2 to 4 pretty easy that way.

...As someone said before, I can't run 5 miles, therefore I have no advice, but good luck to you!

Spokes you already have this licked and you don't know it buddy. Your going to do great and think about it this way, you will have completed a marathon. You are my hero dude (ok I have low hero standards, LOL). Can't wait to read your race report.

spokes - 2007-11-26 1:48 PM I'm concerned its the cold that's going to do me in - not the training or taper madness. I don't seem to run well when its really cold.
Funny and strange ... cold weather usually brings out faster times for %90 of the people. I mean not freezing cold but around 40 F. Go out and run it is too late to do anything about whatever!!!!

Temperature Sunday morning will be around 30F up at the dam. Probably won't make it past the upper 40s by the time I finish. Trying to figure out what to wear is a nightmare... I'm thinking a SS wicking shirt, loose, with a long sleeve wicking shirt over it.

LOL..right now, it's -26F here! I'm looking forward to getting to Sacramento tomorrow for a warm vacation!! I've packed my shorts and Birks!

Anyway, I'm wearing a wicking T and arm warmers that I can easily shove in my pockets (I've got Race Ready shorts).

I haven't run too much but been active over the past two weeks with the hope that my rested legs will do good by me!

you will do fine... you have put in the work, now go out and have fun!!!

Pertaining to gels,  you may try a race belt.  I have this one (pic below)  it will hold your race number and gels.  Its made by fuel belt and its called the "Gel Ready Race Number Belt" (pretty self explanitory, huh?)  They are only about $10-15.
