I'm 54 and am training for my first triathalon, the Honu in Kona. I've never undertaken anything like this in my life. I retired from the Marine Corps in 2000 so running and staying fit has always been part of my live. I attended the Ironman in Kona in Oct as a photographer for a magazine. After hearing the many amazing stories of hardships and obsticles these amazing athletes overcame to accomplish their goals was the insperation I needed. I'm currently going through a weid divorce. My training is helping me re focus my life in so many positive ways that I cannot even begin to explain. I'm looking forward to finishing my first of hopefully many triathalons in May and also I'm hoping to meet a training partner in my area.

Aloha,

Sorry to hear about your divorce, but welcome to the tri world. I can only speak for myself, but how fortunate you are to live in Hawaii, home of the tri-gods. Even as a spectator, what an amazing opportunity.

As the daughter of a Marine, I can assure you that you have the physical background to compete (and complete) a triathlon. Now that I think about it, you have the mental part covered too. (No offense, but I think we're all more than a little mental!)

This is a fantastic website and I hope we see (read) a lot from you soon.

Welcome and good luck with your training.

There are a few races you could do for free to get used to the tri thing before Honu.

These are both 2007, but I am sure 2008 will be there soon and they pretty much do the same thing year after year.

I am on the SouthEast side and have stalled in my training. Still trying to get back in the saddle. Not sure what my next race will be. Hope to see you out there.

Aloha and welcome to BT!

This site has great info, just be warned.....triathlon is addictive!  Since you are just starting out, be sure to log your training, it's amazing to look back on your training and see how far you've come.

The Big Island is my favorite island in Hawaii, you are lucky to live in such an amazing place!
