What is the farthest distance run on a track.  In December of 04 I did 11 individual miles (would stop to jot down the split) on a track as a trainup for the old Vegas marathon.

Now that I have put the kabosh on the PF Chang Phoenix marathon, I'm looking at doing my own run on a track in January.

not very far, but I do it frequently.

I run 3-4 miles per week on a track as my speed workout.

Probably about 5 miles is my max.  I hate running in circles like that ... just not fun for me.  I'd rather run on the road in terrible conditions than a track in perfect conditions .....

The Zoom! Yah! Yah! Indoor marathon is held on the same day as AZ RnR. Although it is full (and in Minnesota) you could hold your own there in Washington!

Here is the information on it. http://www.marathonguide.com/races/racedetails.cfm?MIDD=2641080113  and http://www.geocities.com/zoomyahyah/  Sounds like they put on a pretty good event.

We are getting a full size indoor track here, supposed to open next week and I was thinking the same thing but then thought better of it!

Have fun running circles.

9.2 miles as 1600m warm-up, 10x800m w/400m recovery jogs, 1600m CD.  It was sort of a fun kind of hell.

Well I run for the distance crew on the Track team... and the most we're ever done on the track was about 3-5 miles (anaerobic threshold workouts). Everything else we do on the roads!

12 miles.

And it wasn't too bad. I reversed direction every 2 miles and I listened to music, which I normally don't do because of listening for traffic.

5 miles-ish, probably. Definitely more than four (4x1 mi. intervals plus w/u & c/d).

If you run on a track for extended periods, be sure to change direction.  You can injure yourself otherwise.

Ugh. Running in circles on a track is barely one step up from running in place on a treadmill.

I've done maybe 4 miles at most (bo-ring), though I once ran at dusk instead of dawn--which oddly enough made me run really fast, because I zoned out really fast and enter a runner's high when I couldn't see my feet or the track that well--almost felt like I was floating. So...that helped. I also run on the track at the end of long runs, because it feels downright bouncy and it makes my knees smile.

I did 4 miles once on a track... an indoor track, which was 1/12 of a mile.  I won't ever do it again.  A good BT friend gave me an inspires-smack and told me I'd injure myself.

I think I've done up to 6.5 miles on a 1/4-mile track. I usually change direction every 4 or 5 laps. I don't mind running on the track;, and don't really get bored with it...which is funny considering the whole time I run I say to myself, "one, one, one, one, one, one, one....two, two, two, two, two......." Can't leave a lap uncounted .

I once did 8 miles on one of those 1/10th-mile indoor tracks over a gym. And immediately before that I did 12 miles on a treadmill (people were waiting so I had to get off the treadmill). I wouldn't do it again, but it wasn't all that bad. I had a source of entertainment watching people playing basketball.

good luck!

Do you really repeat saying that for the whole lap?  Day-um.

11 miles running plus 4 laps walking before and probably 8 after . . . I had a two hour segment for a relay for life event (a 24 hour event where teams have to have 1 person on the track at all times). Boring is too mild a word. The only saving grace was that I started in the dark and watched the sun come up.

Same here. I've done 7-8 miles a few times while doing intervals. Last night is a perfect example. 1 mile wu, 4x800 with 600 recovery, 4x400 with 200 recovery, 1 mile cd.

I did 8 miles on a track last saturday...it wouldnt have been too bad, but I didnt bring my tunes.  I felt better after that run than I did the weekend before running 8 on the road.

I found myself saying the same thing (one, one, one, one....two, two, two) the last time I ran on a track. I am awful at counting laps, on a track or in a pool.

it was ~10mi.  back in high school, we got in trouble at track practice and coach made us do our entire workout on the track instead of letting us get the volume in on the road (we used to get in trouble a lot but this time our coach was really po'd).  ...the punishement proved effective - we shaped up after that....

10k on a track for me.  BUT, I read about a group of guys who were trying to qualify for Boston, so they got their local running club to put on a marathon on a track (it was getting close to the cut off date to qualify for whatever year).  They had to shovel snow out of the first three lanes, according to the story, and only one of them finished.  I think he qualified by a few minutes.  Anyway, that's the farthest I've heard of anyone running...I can't imagine...

Seems like I read that in Runner's World, but that was a while back.
