Come on guys - how is everything going in the group this week?

A recap of my January:

GOAL - run 3 miles straight through comfortably - ACHIEVED

GOAL - to swim 100 yards non stop - Achieved

GOAL - to lose 10lbs - Ahcieved (was down 13 and change)

SO I am hopeful for February - my goals are attainable  (5 miles run straight though, swim 200 yards straight through, loose another 10lbs) as long as I keep working towards them!

Well I ended January making 2 out of three of my goals. The snow removal (shoveling/snow blowing) caused me to miss my swim by a couple of thousand yards. I have upped the ante some for February as I continue to build base for my summer.

Hope everyone is doing well and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Peace

Ken

I think that snow removal should count for something.  You know how there are winter triathlons (esp. in Alaska) with skiing, biking, running - well I think here in MI we should have snow removal, biking, running.

Just a thought!

So I had to share withthe group an exciting thing - last night.. I swam... 150 yards STRAIGHT THROUGH.  That is huge for me.  Because this means tha I can make my 200 yard goal!!!!  And this gives me hope that I will be able to swim the entire distance of a sprint tri (800 meters or so)

Oh, and by the way - www.swimplan.com is the BEST site ever. EVER people. You should check it out!

Great job on the swim , as someone who couldn't swim the 100 yard warm up I know exactly where you are coming from. Couple things helped me a lot , practice floating and go really slow and stretch the stroke. My coach basically had me do an exagerated catch up drill and I got my lead arm floating for a 2-3 count before dropping it down and pulling. What it did for me was I consumed less oxygen and my breathing easier at such a slow speed. The floating allowed me to use less legs and again conserve my oxygen.

My best continuous to date has been 600 yards which is huge since when started I couldn't even do 25 without stopping.

A lot happens in a week - I now have completed 1150 yards STRAIGHT THROUGH in my swim last night.  25 laps (in a 23 yard pool) without breaks!

I actually did the catch up and skating when I started to feel a little exhausted- and that helped me stay linear - I now feel like I can go forever!  I am SLOW - 2:47/100 but hey - I am doing it!  I also have been focusing on my hip rotations and arm pulling - wow what a difference a few days can make!  I just increased my endurance by 1000% literally.

Nice!  Although I'm cranking out lots of meters in the pool, I'm just starting to try to string some of the laps together.  The most I've done to date is 75 meters.  I'm hoping for that magic breakthrough that you just had.  I am pretty sure that the key is to try to slow down a little more and relax.  I'm still trying to pull too hard.

Hello again everyone!  I've been off the boards for awhile due to a couple of small family crises, but things are starting to get back to normal now.   It's great to come back and see all the awesome work you all have been doing; it really energizes me to get back into the swing of things.  This weekend has been spent tying up some loose ends on the work front so that I can resume my workouts during the week with a greater consistency.  I'll keep you posted.

Howdy folks.

Sorry it has been a while, work has been quite busy and I've kinda neglected this thread. Looks like the training is going well for some. Looks like a few have taken this off season thing to heart LOL. As for me, I have a new motivation, I just signed up to race at Disney this fall. My two favorite activities in one vacation. Smile

Train hard

Guilty as charged, can't wait to get to March so I have a fresh calendar without so many white squares.

How did you all do for February, I made my bike and run goals but missed the swim. ( Having a really hard time getting out of bed in the morning this year) I've upped mine a bit for March so I'll have to step it up a bit.

Peace
 Ken

February was like the weather... crappy. The last seven days I stepped it up (for me) and worked out everyday and compiled the follwoing totals:

4 swims for 4900 yards (including my 1st and 2nd ever 1000 continuous free)

4 trainer rides for 35.57 "miles"

2 runs for 4.13 (first outside run since early Jan)

Now to the bad, not sure if it was due to increased workouts , but my left achelis is pretty tender and sore. Seemed to tighten up after my 3.13 run on Sunday.

I maintained about the same level of activity in Feb as I had in Jan:

14,000 meters swimming

75 km on the health club bikes

136 km walking/running

Actually it was mostly walking, but I did lay a foundation for running and was able to do 2 miles continuous running this past Sunday.

In March I want to maintain the swim level, up the cycling about 3X and increase my running level.  I'll continue logging walking too, but separately now.

Ok so it's been a hectic couple of months around here and I've been a slacker mentor. Frown How is everyone doing?  Spring fever hitting yet? I'm finally getting some outdoor run miles in and loveing it.

Hi Ken.   I'm having a very nice March.  I kept my swimming level constant, upped my cycling more than 2X (still not a lot, but was able to do much of it outdoors and it felt great most of the time.....other times the wind and temperature were a bit much) and was able to start running again.

For running, I have a very conservative plan that I'm planning to follow.  If things shape up as planned, I will be looking for a 10K run in July/August timeframe and a possible sprint tri in August/Sept timeframe.

All right, last day of March. How is everyone doing? I managed to make my goals. This month I am upping the anti as I am officially into my HIM training plan.

I hope that everyone is doing well!

I am off to Mexico for a week (work) so I will only really be able to do swimming and strength (cannot fit my running shoes in my carryon!)  I hope that I can get in some swims... no garuntee on what the pool is like!

Only a few weeks until my first multisport race!  YIKES!
