This sucks, I have a half mary in 5 hours, and I CAN NOT get to sleep. I have never had race-night insomnia like this! God I am bored right now.

Normal. I've thrown out a couple of near-identical posts here before races. Lots of people can't sleep the night before--hopefully you got a good night's sleep LAST night, which is what really counts. If not--just try to rest lying down, read or watch TV or something. Put your legs up.

Good luck tomorrow!

Uh-oh, now you are talking to yourself, too?

Hmmm.. you sound a little off right now, so I'd bet big that you'll go out and kill it, considering that you'll be delirious by race time, and won't feel a thing!

Good luck!!

I can't even say how much I don't feel like doing this race. I just wanna sleep. But I am not wasting my entry fee!

Funny.  I just want to go BACK to sleep.  Morning always comes too soon.

Well, how did it go?  Were you able to put out a good effort despite the sleep deprivation?

God I should have stayed home, that was a TERRIBLE race. The directions were to the city library, but it turns out the race was 3 miles away. I didn't see anyone, but as I was starting to go home, I saw runners, so I parked and ran with them. Turns out I missed the first 3 miles. My itbs kicked in on my right knee at mile 10, but I was able to run the last 3 miles by keeping my leg pretty straight.

When the race was over my vehicle was still parked 3 miles away from the start/finish. I got to walk/shuffle run in the cold for 2 hours looking for it, still dressed for running (ie shorts and t-shirt). Anyway, my right knee hurts to move now, I think I messed it up pretty good.

The lack of sleep actually didn't affect me in the race, I was able to keep about a 6:40 pace. On the 2 hour drive home though, I had to roll the windows down, and talk (and sing) to myself to keep awake. I slept for 6 hours when I got home Now I am about to sleep for 8 more. YES

I think the only thing I can take from this is life experience. Don't go to a race in this condition, especially if you're driving. And make sure you have the correct directions!

I have always found that half glass of beer or wine puts me to sleep pretty well. And/or some hanky panky. You have to release the energy...riiight?

sorry you had such a bad race. Usually the ITBand pain goes away and don't actually mess anything up in your knee. You need anti inflamatories, ice and stretching.

Does this happen often or is this a new injury? Was the road canted for most of the race?
I suffer from IT band issues off and on and I know first hand how much they suck.

So what have we learned? Get to the race early....have clothes for the walk back to the car...
remember where you parked...(sorry had to ad that one in there)

My family has done that to me after the Chicago Marathon and triathlon. My FIL couldn;t rememebr where he parked and we walked around the parking garage and went up and down lots of stairs for a good 30-45 minutes. I know your pain...very well. Glad you didn;t get in an accident on the way home. Hope you feel better.
