Hello everyone, glad to have found this forum! This year I have a goal to do a complete tri, a sprint and hopefully an olympic. Last year I was limited to doing team events as I injured a calf muscle that took absolutely forever to heal. In the past, the 1st local sprint race was in early June and the 2nd race was in early Oct. I just found out this year the 1st race (sprint) is in mid April and the 2nd race (olympic) is in mid June. I should have joined the local tri club (www.sctriathletes.com) to stay abreast of details. Needless to say I have not started a focused training program! I printed out the 16 week trtaining guides available online to start training with. My weakness is swimming so I plan on a focused swim training as I've been running 5k's this winter and ride a mnt bike to work and hash rides. The sprint tri in April has an ocean 0.3 mile swim, I have a lot of swim learning to do in 8 weeks!

Best Regards,
Don

Welcome and good luck on your goals. I'm sure you'll do great. Put in the practice time for the swim and maybe try and get in the ocean a couple of times for comfort level and you'll be fine. Remember you can always breast stroke or side stroke a bit if needed. Have fun.

8 weeks U CAN DO IT!!!  yes, being redundant, get some live ocean swims in...totally different world from the nice and lazy cozy lanes with clarity, warmth and STRAIGHT lines to follow.  its all u!

fire any questions away...we all struggle with swimming the most it seems and r usually talking about it....mostly cursing BUT lots of recent breakthroughs by some!!!

Welcome, we are also in Florida, a bit south of you. Have you checked into a masters swim program in your area? Could help a lot with the swim thing. Also, if you can get your hands on one of the Total Immersion books, there are some really great freestyle drills in them. Good luck!

Welcome Don! I am also from Brevard and will be racing the local sprint and oly. Being a member wouldn't have gotten you any sooner notice on date changes. I was training a nice easy schedule for the June Sprint (time last year) and found out in Jan that they changed the dates. So my goals changed from time goals and MOP to finishing strong with lesser time goals. Glad to have you. Where do you train? I ride river road most of the time and run down Murrel and swim/weights at Pro Health.

Hi Cameronw!
I live north Melbo south of Pineda. I work on Sarno so I run/ride to work a lot. Swimming it at the Y in Suntree, until the water warms up a bit. Do you do the open water swims with the club or practice the course with the club?

Besides the date change I just saw that they are reverting back to last years race setup as there is a problem with city support for both the ocean swim and bike leg.

Thanks for the heads up on the course change. I wonder if they will put the causeway in the ride? I jsut started the club this Jan and thye haven't done anything yet. I  watched their site last year and they had some weekly training including some river and ocean swims and bricks. Not sure why they haven't started yet with only 2mos until their race. It is worth the $20 though because you get a 10% discount at Running Zone and Bob's bicycles

Don,Welcome to the forum. So glad you decided to join us. It looks like you've got some great goals set up for yourself. Good luck training and I'm sure you'll do great. I'm a swimmer and I just wanted to echo others in saying try a few swims in the ocean for comfort level. Get technique down and speed will come easier. Good luck. Happy trails. And have great training days.

Welome to this fantastic site Don. Great goals. Try not to let the boredom of lane swimming get to you, just get in there and swim. I think that was more for me. Again, welcome and Good Luck!
