I have a yellow lab, Espn, who used to run with me quite a bit.  He doesn't like the  cold too much so only in the spring and fall mostly.  You have to take it easy and run as long as they want to.  They need to build up endurance as well.  Usually good for a few sprints and they are ready to nap.  He is 10 yrs old now and doesn't run with me much anymore but we do go on walks and sprints around the neighborhood.  He still enjoys that and I get in some good intervals.

Hey JR.  Too bad that you can't get the dog.  I was lucky, my wife's friend belongs in Lab Rescue and we took Espn in weighing 50lbs and he was 5 yrs old.  Sickly looking thing.  Now he is a healthy, happy 75lbs.  Summer weight is about 70 but we haven't been outside too much lately.

Your dogs name cracks me up! What do you call him? E-S-P-N, or is there some sort of phonetic rendition??

Can't run with my pet. An african grey parrot doesn't really take to the leash that well!!

We pronounce it Espen.  I got the idea from the ESPN commercial a few years back, 5-6 years now.  It had a girl reading and talking about the ESPN Magazine and how she just loved to read "Espen" the magazine.  When we got our Lab from the rescue his name was Buster and had a red collar.  I changed his name and collar (not a fan of red) and got him back into shape.  He was a mess and not very well taken care of at all.   Now he lives the life of luxery and is great with the kids.

We have a Yorkshire terrier.  She's a good friend but terrible running partner.  She has to sniff everything.  One day I was walking her down toward the park.  She stopped every few feet to sniff.   I was not trying to run, just get on down the path.  I spoke to the dog, not knowing there was a lady behind me.  "Aw, come on Holly.  After a while doesn't all poop smell pretty much the same."  I nearly had to perform CPR on the lady behind me.

These dog stories are great!  Sorry, no dog here and our birds don't really like the leash!

I took my dogs for their first run the other day! They loved it. I have a Blue Healer and an Australian Shepard and they can run for hours and hours. My healer use to pull me on my bike faster than I could peddle to keep up! And would do it for 5 miles or more if I let him!! They love it and it is a great time for them to get out and sniff new sniffs!

Daisy is our yellow overweight lab with hip problems. She ran with me once last summer on a 3 miler. I thought she wasn't going to make it back to the house!! But she trooped along on sheer will power. She didn't move much the next two days. I make sure she's in the house now before I go out.

my poor little Sheltie has to go to the vet today to have his teeth cleaned. At the moment he's most displeased with me because I am not feeding him

my silky terrier,Maggie, only gets drug if I try to take her even on a light walk. However, my yellow lab, Jake, lives the dogs life. He basically runs and swims most of every day. He's in great shape and loves to run. Jake is a great running partner. ;-)
