Isn't Britney preggers again too? Maybe it is just a little sibling rivalry going on here.

I can't help but feel that the mom made some sort of Faustian pact with Satan.

Summed up this way

Satan:   "You can have fame and fortune and lots of attention....but you and all your progeny will be stupid"

Ma Spears:  "Sounds good, Where do I sign?"

Satan: "Put your pawprint on this line here."

Oops they did it again

opps didn't see this thread before I started another one about this..

I"m surprised there isn't some weird outcry about the father/boyfriend being 19 and her being 16. Didn't some high school guy go to prision for sex with a minor? then just got released ?, not too sure on the entire details but I'm sure someone knows what I'm referring to

State laws vary in these situations. I do not specifically know the law in Louisiana. Ohio has a really low age for marriage/sexual consent, I think it is 14.

Normally I wouldn't care at all, but in this case she's a favorite actress of millions of impressionable 10-yr olds like my daughter.  Her role on Zoey 101 is as a smart, wholesome teenager that you'd be happy if your daughter emulated.  Now I have to explain to my daughter that her favorite show will be cancelled because Jamie Lynn isn't all that smart or wholesome...

Or worse. You have to explain why her young wholesome role model is showing baby-bump. I only hope Nickelodean don't write it into the script.

That situation was because the adult male (18yo) was given consenual oral sex by a minor female (16yo).  If they had had regular intercourse, they would have been protected under "romeo and juliet" statutes, which do not protect in the case of oral sex.

Don't ask me why I know these things.  I watch way too much Court TV during the day.

As far as I know 16 y/o girls had made mistakes such as getting pregnant even before any popular TV shows were widely available to 10 y/o impressionable kids, hence I don’t think that a TV character represent by a real teenager should have much impact. After all isn’t the parents job to explain and teach kids to differentiate fiction from reality?

Of course not, they should be able to learn all they need from TV shows like Zoey 101!

As a parent of an 11 year old girl that watches Zoey 101 I shall share with you what my daughter Kelsey said to me when she found out  (which she did from reading the Yahoo! news)

First thing she said ....  "Hasn't she every heard of birth control?  Having sex comes with responsibilities and wouldn't not doing it or using birth control be easier than raising a child for the rest of your life?  I think sex should just be for old people."  (nice)

Second thing ....  "Now she has ruined her career.  She had her own show ..  and the FREEDOM  to be a kid and go to college and do lot's of other kid stuff and now her whole life is going to change.  That would suck."

When I asked her about the "role model" question she said, "Why would I use a fictional TV character or an actor I don't even know as a role model?"    Smart girl!!!!

And she's only 11!  WOW, she's VERY bright!!!  Good for her!

I couldn't agree with you more.  Any 10 yr old kid, including mine, who has been brought up well will know that Jamie Lynn Spears screwed up big time, and will forget next week that her favorite show has been cancelled.  No damage done.

I just think it's sad that this week thousands of conversations between parents and kids will inevitably start with, "Hey Dad, did you hear that Jamie Lynn got knocked up?"

I'm secretly hoping that Emma Roberts (niece of Julie) and Myle Cyrus (daughter of Billy Ray) both get knocked up soon so their shows get cancelled too.  With my daughter's three favorite shows off the air, her weekly total TV habit will drop from 90 minutes to 0!

Statutory rape depends on the age of consent law in that particular state and the difference in age between the two participants.  In Missouri, if you are under 16 and the other is more than 4 yrs older, it's statutory.  If they happen to have oral sex it's considered third degree sodomy.  My nephew was jailed recently for this very thing.  Girl received no punishment though both stated that it was consentual.  If convicted on all charges, he's 17, he would have to file as a sex offender and would have faced up to 20 years in jail.  Looks like he will do probation for 5 years with no sex offender filing necessary.

This situation with the Spears girl will begin a conversation for parents with their young daughters that many were probably not ready for and the media attention just makes the discussions harder.

I went to a conference on adolescent brain development a few years back, and after 2 days of complicated talks on brain chemistry and neuroanatomy by the nation's experts, the organizers summed up the findings: in adolescents, the part of the brain that controls behavior and impulses, and the part of the brain that controls logic and knowledge are not particularly well connected, and that we should lock up our children until they turn at least 18.  It wasn't very heartening for a parent to hear!

Oh, that explains why I did the things I did when I was an adolescent!

My daughter is 6 and we didn't let her watch that show.  But we are prepared for the questions to come our way as we know some of her school friends watched it and will surely be talking about it.
