What are your favorite brands. And what are the price ranges? And how important is it to get them professionally fitted?

Thank you

I love New Balance - 1223 - Yes go get fitted - all of our feet will Pronate and it is important to know which way and also getting the proper shoe for your feet.

I'm a Clyde and I really had a hard time with running, and to some degree I still do, but I am much more comfortable. The reason? I went to a dedicated running store who analyzed my gait and found the shoe that works best for me. A great experience and worth the little extra cash.

I used to buy shoes off the rack, but for running, never again, unless i buy the same shoe. I have the Nike Athelon (sp?) +

Without a doubt go to a runnins store amd get fitted.  Expect to pay more than you would at a sporting goods store, but your body will thank you for it.  I had been running in Asics and after having my gait looked at, I was switched over to Brooks and have had no issues.  My husband has wide feet and always had issues.  He used to wear New balance but learned that their wides actually have the same footbed as all of their shoes, just more materials on the sides.  He switched to Asics wides which are truly wide!

Getting fitted with the appropriate shoe is probably the most important thing you can do (same as getting fitted with a bike).  It will reduce your chance of injury significantly.

Personally, Brooks are my running shoe of choice, Adrenalines, to be exact.  I still have inserts to help with some overpronation.  Price range is about $85/pair.

Brands...Asics..Used to run a LOT and started with them YEARS ago and even though I have tried some others (Brooks, Nike and New Balance) I have always stayed with the Asic (use the 2125 now..I think that is the number)

Price..Once you know what to get you can get these online for around $80-90. (I think I got these at Zappos)

Proper Professional fitting..As far as running goes AI think that is the most important thing you can EVER do. Gait analisys + body type + weekly mileage + running style = My Shoe Type.

I am about 6'4" 240# and I get about 350-375 miles out of a pair of shoes. I overpronate some but I am working hard this winter to shorten my stride and increase my turnover rate to help stop some of that. This is to make be a better and more efficient runner not to save on shoe rubber.

I see that you are a new poster...I think you will find that the overwhelming majority of the BT members will tell you that getting professionally fitted is very important.

Good luck

Steve

Wow thanks for all the quick and helpful repsonses. As an ex athelete I never ever took the art of running seriously, but at a superficial glance I can see there is alot to learn. So my first two goals are to get fitted for shoes and then bikes.

Bikes... it looks like I can take a semester on learning bikes alone. lol
