i did it last year.  you can read my race report.

it is flat and fast.  Swim is in a crystal clear lake.  bike is a giant loop through rural nc with most of the roads being smooth.  run is a two loop out and back through a neighborhood and county highway.  I am a big fan of Setup Events.  They put on great races.

How big is the field for White Lake? I get the impression this race fills up quickly..Registration for Beach2Battleship just opened and it's already close to half full - Same RD/Part of the world.

I heard White Lake is already closed.  It typically sells out in 24-48 hours.  714 competed last year.  I think the field is probably 800-100.

I hope this race catches on.  I think it is the same weekend as IMFL so it should benefit from the spillover that didn't get into IMFL.  Plus the more 140.6 races we have might help control the rising cost of NAS IM events.  Wait, yeah right, lol.

I appreciate the input. It filled in about 12 hours at 900 participants. It is my first half and I may need flat and fast.

Glad you got in.  I think it is a great beginner half...just a bit early in the season.  I am more than happy to answer any questions or help anyway I can.  Feel free to ask or pm away.

One piece of advice...secure lodging early....like now.  White Lake is in BFE North Carolina with nothing more than camping cabins and no name inns around.  Last year I stayed 30 miles away.  I didn't need the added stress of driving in that morning

I got one of the cabins on the lake. I think the rooms are about all gone as well. It was actually cheaper to stay there than farther away.

Will I need a wetsuit? I am thinking about getting one anyway for some races in Indiana.

I appreciate your help.

I'm doing the sprint.  My husband is doing the half (FlyingTiger).  We got a cabin as well.  See you there!

Poop! I was going to race with Flying Tiger and now I'm stuck in the sprint. The silver lining is that I'm going to do Gulf Coast the next weekend as a preview for IMFL.

triat180 - 2008-01-09 10:29 AM Anybody think this will be a wetsuit swim?

Yes.  It was last year and I remember the water being fairly chilly (I sat down in the water after the race for recovery)

In my race report from last year, I indicated the water was 71 degrees.
